Default ....a new pepper mile-stone.

Took the Pepper to the track last night. (HRP)

I still havent gotten the hang of this trans brake and manual valve body Yank TH400, but I had some fun none the less.

The track was hooking pretty well when I got there, yet I wanted to go pretty
conservative with my first pass. I have not been able to get a single GOOD pass with the new tranny with-out hitting the rev limiter in the past.

With the 3.05 first gear in the tranny and 4.10's in the rear, 1st gear raps
out WAY TO FAST. I just cannot see the shift light and then shift with out
hitting the 7000 rev limiter.
So..... I went armed with a plan.
Mike at Yank and Stephen Sanders had both suggested that I just shift right after I launch. Colonel says he shifts while he is still in "wheelie" mode. So after I teched in and talked with a few folks. Eric (mustang buddy), James and Sheila Day, FormulaJoe, and some other good folks I took the
pepper to the line.

Tire pressure was at a cold 15 psi. (that is too high) I know it is conservative but I wanted to start up that high to and work my way down.

I also planned on stalling it kind of low out of the hole. I know it wouldnt
make for the best 60' but I didnt want to blow the tires away like i have
been lately. (28"x10.5 on 15's MT Drags) The trans brake hits the tires hard... and my stock shocks cant transfer the front end up to load the wheels. So a HARD launch usually ends up with me spinning.

So.... I did a good John Force burn out
and staged. A little too deep, ...dang it.

I let the other fella take off and brought it to 3500, let off the T-brake as I stabbed the throttle.
The pepper sat up and took off, I almost immediately pulled it back into
second (reverse pattern shifter) and it shifted like lightning, waited till
the shift light came on and then a half a heart beat later shifted into
third. As i crossed the traps I was thinking, "Dang, I'm hauling some ***". It has been a while since i had a good-solid-run....and this one felt pretty good.

The slip read:
60' 1.473 ---Too low RPM for the launch.
330' 4.376
1/8 6.798
1/8 mph 101.61 --- new best for me!!!
1000' 8.902
1/4 e.t. 10.685
mph 126.29 ---New best for me!!!

Wow, this is some killer mph. I was kicking myself in the *** for not
stalling it up higher. Ahh well at least I had something to show for it.

Unfortunately, the track was gone for my next two runs...but I had fun anyways. Slipping and sliding....I never hooked up again.
A 4000 stall launch was a wasted effort in futility.

So, I'm looking for some aftermarket shocks to replace my stock ones (front and back) The stock ones cant react fast enough to a transbrake launch. :-(

Anyways... I'm pretty happy with that mph... considering I'm running a TH400.
Most folks said my mph would suffer a hefty decrease when I switched to the Yank 400...they were wrong. If my suspension could handle this new trans brake... , well, lets just say that I am just scratching the surface of what the car is capable of. One thing for sure, that MTI heads/cam set up is putting out some serious power.

Later peeps.

Nice run John! Glad to see you getting that combo working that well. And that is some damn good MPH for an all motor heads/cam car. Gotta love what the air must have been like last night.

I am thinking that if you can get a full hook launch off of the brake going out hard (4000 stall or better), then you will likely see a 10.5x pass. On a heads/cam all motor car

Best wishes for faster and faster runs!

Thanks guys.

BTW, the set up consists of MTI stage 2 LS6 heads and the X1 cam. (230/227 on a 112)

Just got to get some suspension stuff done.

I got stuff to do on the car, but 10 degrees is not motivating me even with the heater on in the garage. Take care.

might want to consider a air shifter
if you are into the rev limiter that quick(and want to stick with those gears)

you will end up being fairly inconsistent
if you keep with stab it and shift method

John,

Good seeing you out there again.

What RPM do you go thru the traps at with your combo?

Surely there's gotta be a way for you to pinpoint your shifting accuracy....maybe try a 'Glide....

Nice runs with the turbo 400.
What was the DA and your raceweight?
did the turbo 400 add weight?
I know they suck down some more hp.
Whats is the stock first in a turbo 400?

Very nice MPH John. Get you a set of adjustable HALS and that should help you out a lot with the transbrake on the launch.
