Default My roll cage passed NHRA inspection :-)

Hello everyone,

I wanted to give an update on the progress. It's been slow but we added a few items to the install list. Anyway, here it goes for those who give a $h!t.

I had my 12 point roll cage inspected by NHRA on Saturday and it passed inspection with flying colors. The sticker IS ON the cage

I asked the inspecter about the 1" UNDER DASH bar and he said it IS NOT needed with a stock firewall. I asked him if this particular rule was changing and he said NO. We installed one anyway, I like the added strength.

The cage is painted but needs a little touch up. The window net hardware and 5 point harness tabs are completed also.

We installed a BMR extreme duty Torque arm. The welded areas need painted. I will do the first coat tonight and finish tomorrow night.

The Summit heater will go in Thursday night and hopefully the dash will be put back together by Saturday night.

I will then tow my car back to my shop and install my bare block and new ROSSLER transmission. I am doing this to:

1. Check for drive shaft fitment.
2. Weld on the drive shaft loops.
3. Fabricate a bracket for the new Pro Bandit shifter.

I will install the new Speed Inc. light weight carpet after all this is completed.

I also need to hook up some switches for the trans brake, line lock, 2 step, etc. I am thinking on the cage mount switches but I haven't made up my mind yet.

I also need to remove the bump stops in the rear fender wells and mount and install my new 10" weld draglite rims and MT 28" slicks.

OH ya, we installed 1/2" X 20 X 3" screw in type wheel studs in the front. When the hole was tapped for the threads the hole was a little too big. There was some thread but not a whole lot but they DID screw in. Rodney spot welded them in and they will work just fine. I need to grind the front calipers so I can run with NO spacer. I have a spacer installed at this time and the stud just makes it to within 1/2" from the end of the lug nut. Thats right, there is 1/2" of thread visable on the lug nut. When I take the 5/16" spacer off the stud will be just about flush with the end of the lug FYI.

I can't wait till I am up and running again. It's been a long wait.
Later,
Tom

Car is coming together real nice Tom. That hood is sick. You gotta let us know how you like driving with it cause I kind of wanted it but thought it would be a bit to high for a street car. Good luck.

Tom you might want to consider Aerospace front drag brakes. $469, save ~30#, and the skinnies will fit no problem.

What are the actual rules for rollcages? I heard that I need an 8 point for 11.99 to 10.00, anyine give me the right info?

Thanks Chris, I hope to see you at Cecil this year.

Shadow, I don't have the hood yet. It will be finished in 5 or 6 weeks. I'll post some pics when it is finished. Street car? lol Well sometimes

George, YA man. I'm dying. Can't wait.

Hey Pete, you can call me anytime buddy. I'll e-mail my cell and home phone.

Terry, I have considered drag brakes and the only thing stopping me from doing this mod is the $469 bucks lol. My piggy bank doesn't make noises when I shake it anymore I'll do the brakes next winter.

Mongoose, you need a 5 point roll bar for 11.99 to 10.00 NHRA and 11.49 to 10.00 IHRA. The bar needs to be 1-3/4" in diameter for both mild steel and chrome moly.

Glad to hear the car is coming along Tom! You must be getting excited knowing what lies ahead and that you'll be racing again soon!

NHRA requires 5-point bar (no passenger side bar needed) from 11.99 to 10.00 flat provided no firewall or floorpan mods in front of the driver's seat, but can back-half the car or install tubs but no tube-frame. IHRA is 11.49 and quicker I think.

Glad to hear that your Hot Rod is coming along.

My Hot Rod should be finished at the 1st of March when Wrestling season ends and Drag Racing season begins.

Good luck to ya.

Tom,
I am planning to come to Maryland for a visit in the spring
How strict are Cecil with tech now? Would I be able to run sub 11.3 without getting booted or will I need the 5 point?

Thanks again,
Chris

Chris, I think you would be booted after the first run. Get the CM 5 point roll bar and get it over with lol

JFM, lol I'll bet you are chomping at the bits for that 10 second time slip. You'll get it when the weather breaks.

I finished the insidental painting last night and took the car off the jack stands. Tonight we are going to move the line lock and proportioning valve closer to the brake resavoir and re-do the under hood brake lines. Yes, another chore mixed in but the brake lines look like noodles now lol. I want it to look a little cleaner.

I can't wait to take some pics next week.

Dave, I look forward to the Houston trip also It won't be long now.

Mark, I am actually intimidated looking at that dash. lol I'll start putting that dash back together Thursday night. It won't be so bad, all the plugs are different and can't be plugged in wrong.
