Instrament panel light delete mod and light weight heater install pics
The pics are in my web page. This is the only way I know how to post pics.
I covered the ABS, Air bag, seat belt, ASR off, Service vehicle, skip shift and low trac.
pic 1. is the LED lights. The LED lights are the small ones. The bigger lights illuminate the instrament panel gauges. The bigger lights are twist out removable. The LED's would need to be unsoldered so I took Rob-SS's advice and covered the openings from behind the panel. I didn't use electrical tape though. Tooo time consuming. It was really hard trying to get the electrical tape into the LED openings
pic 2. shows the openings. My middle finger is pointing to the ABS opening and my forefinger is pointed to the AIR BAG bag opening.
pic 3. shows that I used molding clay to cover the opening. This was Rodney's idea because he heard me cussing and I told him I was struggling with the electrical tape.
I took less than a marble sized piece of molding clay and tamped it into place with a large allen wrench waaayyy down inside the opening. When complete the clay was approx. 1/8" thick. It worked great and took no time at all.
pic 4. shows the reinstall of the circuit board. Don't pay attention the the allen wrench on the silver screw because I frugged up. The black screws on either side of the plug are correct but the silver one don't go there. It's the only pic I took of this so I had to use it. If you look real close pic 5 shows the correct location of the 3 silver screws.
pic 5. shows the cover plate installed and job complete.
pic 6. Shows the light weight heater installed. Rodney welded some 1/8" or less thick X 1" wide aluminum bar together and fabbed some brackets to do the install. Rodney has a kit made up for this including all the nuts and bolts needed for install and guess what. Directions too. Users friendly kit.
pic 7. Shows the dash defrost vent where the heater blows through.
I just thought you hard core drag racers would be interested in these modifications to my car. I hate those unwanted dash lights and I really need a heater to defrost the windshield so I can see the lights on the TREE A fogged windshield does not make for a good R/T.

Hmm, maybe my car wouldn't look so much like a christmas tree with this mod Great write-up Tom!

I see the dash is back on. Do the other group of wires get tucked up under the dash? How long did it take to get the dash back together? How long before you are going to get the new motor?

Great stuff Tom.
This is the same thing that we need to do to the Hot Rod.
Except for the heater thing. No need for that in the great state of TEXAS!
Gald to see things are coming along. Keep us posted.

Fenris Ulf, I had the same Christmas tree. I figured I would take care of the problem while I had the dash apart.
Mark, the dash is in. Took about 2 hours to trim for the roll cage and bolt it up. Yes just tuck the wires back under the dash and wire tie everything. I got some velcro straps. Soon, the new engine will be complete soon.
John, Working on the car is not fun anymore. I hope that will change when I start racing again. Remember I blew the original 346 engine up? You were there. June 15th 2001. That was the last time I raced without major problems. Well the day before that was the last time without major issues. How are things going with your N/A beast buddy? Call anytime.
Coach, I definately need a heater up in this neck of the woods.
