Launch technique...
Alright guys, Ive had my slug (Stock 98Z w/K&N Filter) to the track twice now, and cant wring more than a 14.00@103.9 out of it.
I shoulda went braket racing. 14.1, 14.08, 14.06, 14.09, etc etc.
These runs were at Moroso Motorsports park in Palm Beach Florida, with the ambient temp around 50°. known to have the worst track prep in the world. And this leads me to my point.
Any tips on how to launch this thing? Im on Kumho Ecsta 712s, letting the clutch out at ~2200rpm. This gives me tire smoking 2.4x 60 foots. Trying again from idle, gave me tire smoking 2.3x 60 foots.
Anyone who races at moroso have any tips? Anyone else?
Past, of course, buying ET Streets...

Get your 60' down to around a 2.0 and you'll be running somewhere around 13.4 which is pretty much standard for a bone stock LS1. Sorry to say it my friend, but it's your driving. Coach is right. Get some drag radials and practice, practice, practice.

Re: Launch technique...
Here is a tip that I use at my local dragstrip with my stock 00 WS6 M6 and nittos or ET streets. my local track really BLOWS too...Thompson Drag Raceway
What I do is hold the revs from 2500-3000 and let the clutch out smoothly straight up. I don't just sidestep the clutch. When I am ready to launch I raise my left foot straight up and I keep the gas pedal steady. Once the front end begins to level out I then stomp it. This seems to net me ok 60s, 2.0 range, not to bad for no track prep.

First off,... 50 Degrees means now hoooookie. That being said you definitly want to pick up a set of Nitto Drag Radials. Run those between 18 and 20lbs cold pressure. Best bet is to drop them to 20lbs and drop a .5lbs until your 60s get worse. Practice your launch with the right pressure and you should be running consistent 1.9-2.0 for your 60s. With more bolt ons and clutch work those tires can take you into the 1.6-1.8 range.
If you figure every .1 at the 60 is worth .3 at the finish line. You can see your payoff is nice for $300 in tires.
You can run the Nittos for 5-7K miles and they handle rain quite well for most of their life.
