John you are correct Sammy's 1st gen is a hybrid and it is lighter. But it is still the fastest Lt1 Na Street door car. Sammys car is street driven, licensed, and insured. In a couple of weekends he's planning on driving the car to the track(30+miles),running 9's na,then driving home. A lot of the "fast ones" are not capable of doing that. Since the Thundershootout the car has been painted and stripped it looks sweet. Frank95z

John ,Vince went a 9.97 if I remember right

Steve,I know you wont be far behind I need some company and I know its comin..

Frank, its nice and all for you to take up for your buddy. You make sure to note him on every post I make..As I said before 9.73 is good for what he has, but its not that great either considering his race weight..As far as daily driven thats great if he chooses to do that. Why someone would put wear and tear on a engine performing like that I havnt a clue. Its doesnt prove a thing...But just so you know my car is tagged and registered also, just because I choose not to put wear and tear on it on the street doesnt mean it cant be driven anywhere..Thats personal choice nothing else..but I guarantee he'll have to bring along a "few" jugs of 110 for the journey.. All I know is when i pick up my timeslip I push the power window switch

Joe the only reason I post is because my friend is not into computers. The engine was built to be street driven. It is just a hydraulic 396 with ported heads running with a stock computer.Sammy doen't run leaded gas because he still has o2 sensors. I prefer 4th gen cars myself because they drive better, stop better, and I like there looks better. Thats why I run a 4th gen You have a awsome car and I congratulate you on your success. Down in this area we have Cody Kern who is now building a 396 4th gen that is a clone of Sammy's engine in a 94 Camaro with a turbo 350 maybe he can run some decent numbers also Good Luck and congrats on your bracket win. Frank that may very well be and hope to see more lt1's comin out..its not many of us left..I have an 02 also and the one I use do live on leaded fuel Sammy had that engine in a 4th gen not to long ago did he not? Point being ,We all know that its almost impossible to get below 2950 lbs with a track legal 9 sec 4th gen..All I'm saying its not comparing apples to apples..But as I said before 9.73 is awesome for a lt1 n/a...If thats the pinnacle then thats what I'm gunning for as well as a couple others I know of..Thanks again for the motivation

You're correct about not being apples to apples. Weight is just another way to go fast. Everybody does it their own way. My 4th gen with stockheads runs 11.40's and I get knocked for it being a bit on the light side. When I set it up to run fast (not bracket mode) it weighs 3095 without me in it. I still have front bumper supports, heater, blower, airbags, stock power drivers seat, stock K member, stock carpet, and stock brakes. In that mode when someone looks inside it has 1 seat, full carpet, all plastic pieces in place, console and with the rollbar and harness I really don't think that it looks thief recovery. With some work and $ I believe i could get mine in the 2900# range. What do you think? I almost forgot to answer one of your questions.Sammy did have the base motor that he currently has in his 1st gen in a 4th gen. But it was a 3600# 6 speed car and he didn't have his current head or cam setup. Ran 10.90's first weekend with small throttlebody and no tuning with about 6000 rev limit. From that weekend till he took it out never had good weekend either broke (stick shift) or didn't run right. He even tried 6 speed in 1st gen when he first put it in.Can you say disaster. Like let out clutch and sweep up parts. With the current head/cam setup and a automatic car woke up. Good Luck and nice chatting Frank95z

Mines 3480(over half tank) with everything you listed on the car, just no front seat, rear, rear speaker panels, minue spare/jack, and 15 inch welds.

The only way i could get mine to your weight is to take off the supports, airbags, sway bay, and etc but i still wouldnt hit those numbers I dont think.

Damn TA's suck... nothing but heavy pigs

but back on the subject... 9.7 is the record for a LT1 motor, but not in a LT1 car. Joe has the record for fastest LT1 in a LT1 car if that makes sense

1st, 2nd, or 3rd... hell who cares, its a 9sec all motor power housed LT1

Frank 2900 with a 6 point bar and a hardtop maybe..but it would be hard pressed in a 9sec "track legal" car without replacing the glass in the car or altering the body structure with aluminum or other light weight material..basically cutting the car up...but to answer question yes it could be done..its basically how far your willing to go..
On a side note thanks "ls1 speed" my new carpet looks great

My car is legal to 10.99 and with a aftermarket balancer 9.99. It has all safety equipment needed 6 point,belts,loop,stems,12bolt with big axles. To run quicker it would need halo and front bars and a blanket. Or am I missing something. I'm kind of old and do get forgetful Frank95z

John my guess that 9.94 will be short lived when Steve gets dialed in..he liable to bust that time first time out..His weather up there is not as favorable as it is in the south..Tracks not even open yet I dont believe..

HA! Ha! Joe the point I was trying to make is that my car is at 3095 right now and with lightweight k member, brakes, spool, removing front bumper support, airbags, heater, blower, put in lightweight seat. And adding halo/frontbars/blanket that my car would be in the 2900# range car alone. Frank95z

For sure I wasn't talking car empty I was refering race weight with driver hence unless your buck fiddy it still be close to 3100lbs..step into the 8's tack on another 100..unless the sawzall has been broken out..or as I said before some lexan was in order

compression makes power

Im really not worried, just gotta keep a careful eye on the tune up. Heck we spray double what I do on our 16 to 1, 604ci Big Cheif headed 67 camaro

Im hoping to run some 9.40's on motor this year and 8 something on the gun. Its got more than enough power just gotta make it go down the track...
