Default 3.73s to 3.42s any ET loss?

This weekend, after cutting back to back 1.56 60fts. my 10-bolt w/3.73s broke. I will probably be swapping in a complete 3.42 equipped rear (don't have the scratch for a 12-bolt).

Question is, will the gear change effect 60ft times and ETs? Or will the change be negligable? I'm acually looking foreward to having a quiet rear again (richmond 3.73s suck). TIA

do you still use/care about your abs? ive got a quiet 3.73 3 channel rearend with a girdle on it. or you could swap your axles and caliper brackets onto it so the ABS still works

anyways, if you might be interested i posted it on the MFBA a few weeks ago

I'm on my 3rd 10 bolt and my advise i can give you would be to find a used 10 bolt that has 3.73s or 4.10s because by the time you pay for gears and install you can pick up a fully assembled 10 bolt from someone that no longer needs it. I picked up a 10 bolt with 4.10s,auburn posi and TA girdle localy for $400. To me that was a steal since the gear and install kit was $280 and $150 for labor. Good thing about keeping the broken 10 bolt is you can repair it later on for a spare when you break the other one lol

Now who has a 12 bolt for $400 i can buy

I think you will lose .05-.08 tenth and a solid mph in the 1/4 with the 3.42s with a cam because it will not pull into the power band fast enough but the good side is it will launch alot easier

I have an LT1 and I lost 4 tenths with that gear swap! I dont know if the LS1 having more topend will make that much of a loss.

its hard to say... i dont think u will loose much. I mean im doing just fine on 3.23's with the vig3600. I have a spare M6 rear with 3.42's I may swap in for fall to see if that helps any. Its just cheaper to pick up used 10bolts then it is to buy a 12bolt for me. Mmy stocker has lasted 3-4 years and hopefully it keeps gettin it good luck man

Thanks for the replys, I'm thinking .05 loss, small price to pay for having a rear that isn't louder than your radio.

Chevyguy, sorry but I already made a deal on a 3.42 rear. thanks

Pris, once you get a cam you will be driving right around me.

Crazy Farmer, I only spend money on speed parts. the radio stays stock. By the end of the month I'll have the rest of the bolt-ons installed, I'm comming after that 11.50
