Default A Noob question

I just bought a 2000 Z28 A4 and will be going to the drag strip for the first time. My car is currently bone stock and I want to see what it will run before I do any mods. What is the best way to launch, What RPM and so fourth. From just playing with it I think you use left foot on the break and right foot on the gas while launching but im not sure if this is best. Like I said Im a total noob. Thanks in adavance.

I would suggest just driving AROUND the water box. Quick little dusting off of the tires (assuming ur on a stock tire still). Ya ur doin pretty good already/ Just foot brake it up a bit and give it just enough gas so u dont spin. This may take a few tries to figure out how much to give/not to give. Also I've found best results putting the shifter into drive instead of OD.

When you stage the car. Get on the brake as hard as you can, push the gas pedal until you feel the *** end of the car come up. When you see color in the 3rd light dump the brake pedal and drive the gas pedal through the floor.

Good luck and report back the results.

Around the water box.
Front tire psi to 45
Rear tire psi to 28

First run..... launch off idle just to get a feel for it.

Next pass..... 1 foot on brake, one foot slightly on gas... raise rpm's to 1500

Third pass... same as above.... but go for 1800 rpm's.

And remember..... have fun

check your fluids before hand also

As for a burnout technique, you might want to experiment. I know that at different tracks, track prep is an issue. First, start off with just a light dust off as decribed above. If that doesn't net you 2.0 60' times, do a dry burnout in front of the water box for about 3 second and take it to the line. Bets thing to do is line up right behind a car using ET streets or better tires, preferrably Drag Slicks on those sub 9 second cars. Do not line up behind ricers. Just pratice, experiment with differnet launch/burnout techniques and have fun!

Default Back from the track

Just wanted to post how my times were. Ill start by saying I really need some practice, and thanks again for the advice on launching it worked well. I ran 5 times.

My worst run
60' 2.280
1/4 14.549
MPH 86.58

My best run.
60' 2.172
1/4 14.021
MPH 99.87

My next question is how much effect does weight have on your times? Im a big guy 300+ and I had a passenger in the car as well.

Passenger During a run??? Hmmm... I didn't know that was allowed. However, weight matters. No wonder why you you didn't break into the 13's

And every tenth off in the 60' leads to about 2-3 tenths in the top end.
