Fbodies are Pigs! (weight reduction)

Fbodies are Pigs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So we all know the thing holding us apart from the rest of the world is our weight, we are fat assess as some like to say!
how can we make our f bodys, 94 camaro especially lighter. while keeping the interior.
fiberglass hood perhaps? which one is the lightest that you know of? weight difference?
Are the stock fenders heavy? Do they make after market fiberglass or better looking ones?(also some one hit mine today and ran off )
what about 1/4 panels?
What makes our cars so heavy in comparison to the rest of the crowd? or should we just over compensate and push huge HP numbers.

overcompensate most definitely. our cars arent bad compared to 03-04 cobras and such. lighter seats, backseat/spare delete, tubular kmember, etc, the possibilities are endless. i wouldnt go changing body panels though. only the rear quarters and doorskins are metal.

I weigh 3350 with a FULL stock interior. Oh wait, I have removed the rear seat due to the cage. Still has ALL plastic interior panels, stock front seats, stock steering wheel, stock console, and stock carpet. I do still have the bottom of the rear seat though. They don't weigh much. Just remove everything you don't use anymore.

Mine isn't extremely fat, 3750 with me in it and some gas. No spare or jack.
If you're looking to drop weight I would suggest a fiberglass hood (only if you were going to replace your hood anyway..), a lexan back hatch (expensive but good weight loss), A/C delete, tubular K-member, racing seats, rear seat removal.. blah blah.

The back hatch should be a real nice weight loss.. they're really expensive though. I'm sure if you search you can find info on it.
And there is a giant list floating around here somewhere, it lists how much almost everything on the car weighs.

there is a sticky in the drag racing section. A few tips for lightweight cars.....
-remove padding under carpet and insulation
-replace carpet with lightweight carpet
-!backseat
-!spare and jack
-race seats...kirkey or Jaz preferebly...if you have power seats there is a lot of weight there
-lightweight battery
-headers to replace heavy manifolds
-cutout w/no cat back after it....or true duals
-!air pump
-!ac condenser/ lines
-!hood insulation
-replace steering wheel with one !airbag
-replace wheels with bogarts or welds
- tubular k member
- tubular a arms
- wilwood drag brakes
- aluminum/ carbon fiber driveshaft
-fiberglass hood
-!winsheild wipers + motor
Okay thats a good start....that would drop a nice amount of weight but there is so much mour out there....btw a Lexan window wouldnt be good on the street because it will leak, it distorts vision, is uber expensive and would look f*n ridiculous riveted on a 12 sec car imho...save that for the pro stock guys

How could you miss this thread? It's the biggest 4th gen weight reduction list on the Internet right now... https://ls1tech.com/forums/drag-racing-tech/17319-weight-reduction-list.html
Food for thought, my car weighs 3250 with 3/4 tank without me in it.
It's got trimmed HVAC, no cruise, no rear seats, no spare tire/jack. Center console is out and carpet is sealed up. Still has front and rear bumper supports, factory hood and all other interior panels.
This year my goal is to trim another 200 lbs off. It'll take some effort, but there's a TON of stuff left to tear out.

I've got a couple more ideas that I'll share... A recipe for a 2800 lb car, for starters:
http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~promba/weight_reduction.xls
Also, give Summit a call and order a 16" XR1 muffler... 8 pounds. My Hooker Aerochamber weighs at LEAST 40 with tips.
Other ideas comin later... stay tuned

Brent Franker has a pretty cool page where he has the weights of all kinds of Shtuff in our cars.
FRANKER'S "what's it weigh?" page
If you have lots of money, another way to reduce weight would be to replace all your stamped steel suspension parts for tubular chromoly pieces. Upper/Lower A-arms, K-member, torque arm, control arms, and panhard bars. Also, QA1 shocks are supposedly pretty lightweight. BMR's site mentions the QA1 shocks are about 17lbs. lighter than the stock spring/shock combo.

No one ever mentioned roll-down windows..... I have roll-down windows, I dunno how much weight it takes off though. I've compared my friend's power windows door to mine - mine feels MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH MUCH lighter.... its astonishing
