Default Running out of gear, now what??? Best launch with YPT4400?

I just had a YPT4400 and 4.10's installed in my C5. Now that my 26x11.5x16 E.T. streets are wearing down, I'm tached out as I hit the traps on a 90* day. Now if I race in good weather I'll either be boucing off the limiter, or shifting into 4th. Raising the limiter is out of the question because it's a 98, and the limiter is already set at 6700. The motor should pull to at least 67-6800 with my 230-236 114 cam and stage II heads.

Since I have to use a 16" wheel, my choices are limited. There's a few 28" tires available, but with only 388rwhp I don't think I need that much tire. M/T makes a 27" tire, but it's only a 27x10.5x16. And putting it on a 10" wheel would make it a little shorter(not really a problem), and will make the sidewall stiffer which may be a problem. Am I SOL unless I buy narrower wheels or have rod bolts replaced?

Also, what is the best way to launch a YPT4400? I tried powerbraking it as high as possible since my SS4000 loved that. Since I didn't see a big change in my 60's since the swap, is there a better technique? I doubt traction will be a problem, with good track conditions I never spin.

TIA!

I have ran a 26" tire for years with 4:10's
Just up your limiter. I was crossing at 6900. You'll be fine.

I do it by feel, Which is around 2500. If I try to go too high the car moves. I just want the suspension loaded just right.

I do and don't, lol. I think it would look cool, that's about it. The tech at M/T told me the sidewall on the 27x10.5x16 would be stiffer due to being used on a 10" wide wheel(8" is recommended), and 28" would be overkill IMO.

That's not true. If he goes up to 28's he won't get to the end of his powerband before crossing the traps. I vote for upping your rev limiter or getting the 27's. Go too tall and you'll lose ET.

i said the taller tire as he doesn't want to put in new rod bolts (possibly pulling the motor). this would also keep him from buying new tires AGAIN if he put a few more mods on it.

*edit*- he's also on 16's so the extra tire might help em wrinkle that little bit better

Well if you are still having issues you could get Circle D in Houston to build you a killer stall converter (like mine) with a dual disc lock up clutch that absolutely will not slip. He will guarantee it. You could lock it up (as it was designed for) and it would carry you the rest of thr way through the traps. It is an ideal option for those A4 guys that spray and run out of track.

I'll provide more info on mine once I get exact back to back results in like conditions. I don't run out of track. I am using the lock up for a little extra mph and ET improvements.

Good luck!
