Default Shift Point Question

During a drag race, what is the best RPM to shift at on a mostly stock LS1 M6 F-body. I have heard about 5,700 but wasn't sure. I have been known to shift a little early to avoid that damn rev limiter. (such an awful sound)

6300-6400 is what i have found optimally. but ofcourse you need some custom tuning to achieve that. otherwise as high as possible. whoever told you 5700 was misinformed.

Put it on a dyno and see where you start to drop power and shift there with a shift light or aftermarket tach to be certain. Otherwise, shift by feel cause the stock tach is not very accurate.

a dyno will help you find where your car shifts best

guys this is a mostly stock ls1. sure you can put it on a dyno but i bet he will go fastest shifting 6200-6400 rpms.

btw, you want to shift after your powerband starts to fall. this allows you to pick up the next gear closer to that powerband.

Thanks for the tips, I knew I was shifting a little early. I want to get a monster tach and get the rev limiter removed with a tuner sometime soon.

Don't remove the limiter. Just get it bumped up a bit. It's always nice to have it if you need it.

That should be pretty safe. I am at 6800, but I have comp 918 springs that can handle the extra RPM.
