Default Fast 05 mustangs?

Whats up with the little 4.6l mustangs these days? I just picked up the new MM&FF at the store tonight and they had an 05 GT with x-pipe, muffler, cold air kit and drag radials runnin 12.2 @ 112mph. I didn't think they were this fast. So what, I need heads/cam and all the bolt ons so my LS1 can compete with a stock 4.6l?

I think i have seen the one you are talking about, they took quite a bit of weight out of it, put it on drag wheels and also put drag race brakes and alot of suspension under it. So it is not your typical cheap bolt-on's.

If that's the case, you can probably compare that one to the many 11-sec or faster (only one in the 10's that I know of) ls1's on this board, so we're still faster, by a whole second or more, hehe!!!

Ha Ha, lol. You guys are making me feel better. I didn't hear about them removing alot of weight though, that would make a difference. They said they ran it with drag radials, and that with slicks they were hoping for 11's.

Sounds like a lot of bolt-on and cam-only 4th gens too.

The 3V motors run a little better than the old SOHC 2V junk piles. That was one of the worst decisions ever made in the history of automotive engines.

the car that ran 12.2 had 400 lbs taken out of it.

my 05 has run a best of 13.47 @ 102 with just suspension mods and tuning. I know it will do LOW 13's once i figure out how to launch it with this damn RAM clutch. it's very on/off. not good for street tires

400 lbs...so that would put the car at 12.6 without the weight reduction. That is fast for a 4.6 with hardly any mods and drag radials. How could they have run it 1.2 seconds quicker than you and at 10 more mph? I'm sure you aren't a bad driver.

I saw Rick Andersen shifting a 05 with just 17" dr's last fall, after t'giving. 13.4@100mph trying to hold out 3rd gear.

I bet with gears and some boltons 12.9's are pretty easy.

That 12.2 had the same kind of boltons and weight reduction that our 11.5 guys go... We blow those away weight for weight.

I just cut out an 05' mustang "body in white", for a firewall back tube chassis.

I removed nearly 450lbs of metal. Those things are heavy! 4 of us could not pick it up to put it on the table.

Some of the subframe was 5 layers thick!
The front SubFrame goes all the way back to the rear. It does not connect but It would probably be a waste of money for those guys to buy subframe connecters LOL.

A few 05 bodies are in the 9's already but not necessarily 3v cars. Robin Lawrence campaigns a red 05 in Real Street (or Pure Street), and Sutton Performance has a blown one that is going 10.doh's.

I'm hoping some QA1's in the rear will help its launching and wheelhop issues. even with solid rear suspension peices it wheels hops sometimes.
