I'm currently running a Bmr k-member and upper and lower a-arms. I want to get the car lighter and wondering is it worth switching to chromoly front end parts. I have tried visiting the different companies(AJE, Profab, etc.) that I know make these parts but they don't ever list a specific weight for each product just an approximation of what you would lose off the front end.

AJE Also makes a Chromoly Spindle for our cars. You need to use a 3rd gen Brake kit tho. Good thing about that is the Brakes are cheaper LOL.

This is a damn good question.. I'm looking at doing a k member and a arms in the near future... but wanna go with teh lightest ones that I can still drive aorund some on. Be nice if the manufacturer would just tell you the weight of the part compared to a stock piece.

I don't know how much the others weigh, but here are the weights of mine:

Pro-Fab Mild Steel K-member w/motor mounts: 18.2lbs.
Mild Steel A-arms w/rod ends: 10.6lbs(both)

The BMR K-member is the lightest on the market from what I have seen. Due to the fact that all the others have to use the stock lower motor mounts while the BMR unit has motor mounts built into it. Hope this helps.

You Don't Have to use a Stock lower mount. You can run a 1 piece Chromoly mount that is lighter than just the top mounts alone. You cannot do this with the BMR unless you cut their mounts off (or get it without mounts) and fab some plates to weld on for the stock Style motor mount.

BMR does not state what their Kmembers are made of. Are they Chromoly? I have heard they are mild steel. In which case they are definately not lighter

Hopefully I will see my AJE stuff this week or next guys. I will be sure to post up some pics when I do!!!
I will also get a weight diff between the stock and AJE spindle.
FYI The Strange Drag Brakes for a 3rd gen are ALOT cheaper than the 4th Gen.

I was just on their site and are refering to the Spindle strut assembly that is like the stocker and has no upper a-arm....????????

AJE's use a spring perch up top, not an upper a-arm.

Squintz..what wheels are you going with? Spindle mount wheels look SOOO good.

the bmr k-member replaces the entire motor mount (no need for any of the stock engine mount) mine is mild steel and weighs in around 20# sees lot's of street miles with no problems, don't see how the PA unit is 18# without sacrificing strength, if it's for a race car only it's probably ok,the AJE strut conversion is nice to but wouldn't recommend street driving....my.02

No, This is an A Arm Spindle, NOT The strut setup.Its not on their site. I am using the stock upper control arms (only 1/2lb weight savings buy goin C/M uppers. You actualluy add weight if you go with tubular Uppers that are mild steel)

Yeah Man, The spindle mounts look Effin sweet. I am gonna drive this ****** every once n a while so I am goin with a bolt on wheel.

Becarefull with that AJE stuff if you want to run an LS1Tech class. Didn't they get outlawed because they are 100% 'stock style' pieces?

So the AJE parts are a strut setup like the setup that billingsley sells.. or am I misunderstanding this? Do they use the factory parts for the front axle mounting? A picture would probably clarify this a whole bunch....

Those of you who went to the aje setup, what was teh weight of your car before and after... and what did you change in total, ( rims, etc ) so I can get a better idea s to what teh real savings was? I was looking at going with a BMR, but if there's better options out there, I'd rahter look into that.

AJE K-member = no upper a-arm. They may actually offer both with an upper arm and without. I think the LS1Tech stuff gives you a weight penalty...but that may have changed.

AJE also sells a spindle that uses spindle-mount brakes/wheels like the stuff Billingsley posted a while back. Very light.

It can be driven on. I should have mine next week.
There is a car at the shop now that has the a arm setup on it. The spindles are for spindle mount wheels. I will take some pics of that when I go in this afternoon.

The rules for ls1 tech give a weight penalty for the strut setup (+50lbs)
