Pros/Cons of both....
Trying to decide here guys. My car is finally coming back together and I need to pick a transsetup. Motor is FMS 347 solid setup (should be making mid 500s through M6) and car is gonna weigh around 2900/3000 with me in it.. I have always been a 6spd guy and enjoyed grabbing the gears(when I didnt miss em )
Option 1 is Proshifted T56 with 5/6th gears removed. steel shift forks blah blah blah
Option 2 is Th400 from Fear The LS1 (Lee) I picked up a few weeks ago. Air shifter, Transbrake, 5800 converter etc etc.....
Anyone whos crossed to the darkside have mph differences, ET differences, 60ft differences or just fun factor input??
I cant make up my mind for chit!!!!!!

i just tossed a TH350 in my car coming from an M6. now i didn't have a built M6 at all so i can't give advice on that. but from what i gathered with my TH350 in my limited driving experience so far, is i LOVE it. w/ the 4.30's it's really screaming while driving at higher speeds, but i don't have a long freeway drive anywhere. so i felt the compromise on consistency compared to my shifting abilities, was a greater benefit

You goin for all motor, or are you gonna spray? If ur gonna spray, ur gonna need a different converter on the th400, i'd throw the it in there either way though (just with a diff converter for spray). Not going to beat it's consistency, plus the launch is going to be killer with whichever way you go, don't have to worry about misshifts, etc! I went from 6-speed to turbo 400, and I really didn't loose much mph at all (a few friends have done the swap too, and i'd say we all lost under 1 mph if anything at all), turbo 400 is definately the way too go for a race car! Fun factor though, gotta give it to a 6-speed, definately fun bangin gears!!! But I never miss my 6-speed at the track, only when i'm cruisin around on the street! Oh and for consistency the air shifter is great, but for fun factor, shift it urself, at least you still feel like ur doing something and not just stabbing and steering!

Ron as you know I am much slower than you but here is my 2 cents. I love the auto for consistency on launches and each pass...since mine is a daily driver it is nice in traffic as well. Now as far as track driving, you could crochet a sweater and drive my car down the track...I enjoy the speed but the driving part is non-existent once you pass 60'. I know you love to row but the auto is more consistent. Think about what you are really going to do with the car. If you are going to race for money, i'd say auto. if you are going to just go for fun like me, get the stick. How fast are you thinking of going? I'd ask the guys around your goal and see what they say. It wouldnt be such a hard choice if you didnt have both options sitting in front of you

I love the TH400. Put the manual vlave body in it and you get to shift gears. I agree it is not as much fun as banging gears but in the long run the consistency pays off. ATI makes a great convertor for them aswell.

If you are going to really race the car go with Option 2. The Th400 from Fear The LS1 (Lee). Air shifter, Transbrake, 5800 converter.
Now, if you are just going to mainly drive the car on the street go with Option 1. The Proshifted T56 with 5/6th gears removed. steel shift forks.

The type of racing I did would be the deciding factor for me. When I was ate up with bracket racing a few years back, an auto was the only way to go for chasing the big dollars around. Now that I've given that up, my stick is fun to drive. If you're a test n tune racer then I'd stick with the stick. If you're serious about chasing bracket dollars, go for the auto. I'm sure some people can kick butt with the stick at bracket racing but I don't believe there are that many of those people around.

I gave the T56 a week on the boards to sell or I was going to run it and sell the TH400.... I didnt need 5k in transmissions sitting in my garage.. The T56 is gone so TH400 it is. I think either would have been fun. They both seem to have their advantages/disadvantages.
