Default A4 410 Or 456 Gears

Anyone running the 456 gears in a 10 bolt. We changed from Et Streets 26 x 10.5 x 15 to the ET Drags 28 x 10.5 x 15 and lost about 2-3 tenths running the 1/8. The ET Drags are about 3 inches taller and 1 1/4 inch wider, that was a surprise. I was thinking about going with the 410 or 456 to make up the difference. We are running the stock 10 bolt with 373 Strange gears. The car is a 99 Formula built A4 420 rwhp N/A track only with a vig 3800 and yes we have around 125 passes with no problems out of the rear end. YET!!!!!!!!
1.50 to 1.60 60ft 7.2 at 94mph before the tire change.
Thanks
Alan

Anything above 3.73 is pushing it in a 10 bolt being that it gets weaker as the number gets numerically higher. If you had a 12 bolt, I would say 4.56 all the way. It seems to be the perfect gear for a 28" slick. You could try doing a 4.10 in a 10 bolt, but wouldnt suggest a 4.56. However, if you try it and break it and go with a 12 bolt, go with a 4.56. I have a 4.10 now using 26x10x15 ET Drags and I'll be upgrading to 4.56 with 29.5x10.5x15 ET Drag.

same here, 26x10x15 hoosier slick with 4.10's in the 10 bolt and 4000 stall. i thought the 4.10s were thin, but the 4.56 is asking for trouble.

i run 4.10 gears with a 25.7" tall tire. on motor i go through the traps right at 6100 rpms. it's so close i shift into 4th right at the traps. with your 28" tall tires, that would be just about perfect.

Well that all depends on slippage, rev limiter, etc. There are other factors that need to be put into the equation. I have a PT4400 and I dont lock it up with a 4.10 gear on 26" Drags and I pass through the traps at 6800-6900, but then again, I have a 7200 rpm rev limiter and shift at 7000.

I have a series 2 carrier and it needs the thick gears. I checked Yukon and they don't make anything above a 410 for that rear end unless it's a 456.
I think the 410s are going to be the gear I need until it explodes and we go with the 12 bolt or 9 inch.
Thanks for the reply
Alan
