Default How much gas do you put in?

Which is the best way to go when you're at the track?

Full tank for better traction?
Quarter tank for less dead weight?
Or a happy medium to fit both worlds?

I usually try to have a little as possible in the tank for weight reasons.....
Keep in mind water weighs 8.33lbs. Not sure how much gas weighs but if you use the water weight and only have a couple of gallons of gas in the tank, you could possibly be saving 100lbs of weight.

I like to start with it reading right below the 1/4 full mark.
The less weight the better, make the suspension work like it supposed to.

One gallon of gas can weight anywhere from just under 6 pds. to 6.5 pds. a gallon.

At the strip, I run anywhere from a 1/2 tank to 1/4 tank of gas.

5 gallons = 1/3 tank
Yet I easily need to use 1 driving to the track and one driving home, so that leaves me 3 gallons for everything else

I usually figure it that when I get to the track I have exactly a 1/4 tank.

i typically would pull the line off the sump on mine and drain it into a can (for later use) and then just put about 3 gallons in the car every time i make a pass usually not exactly 3 gallons though

Same here. I keep 3 gallons in the tank while racing. I usually bring 5 gallons of 93 and 5 gallons of 100 with me in the truck.

For me I have ran different amounts for different cars, and tire combos. They say 100 pounds is worth a .10th in the 1/4. Most cars are not ever close to the 50/50 front to rear weight most drag racers go for, so the added gas helps transfer weight and balance the car. The 60ft is the most important part of the 1/4, so if you have a small tire combo, it really helps. You might gain .03 with a low level tank from weight reduction, but if you don't 60ft as good, with a full tank say a 1.70 vs a 1.80 with an empty tank, thats like losing .20 overall.
