Default How Much Time Off 1/4 With 4.10's????

Its gear time, well im debating on geting headers or gears. I for sure am getting both but witch one comes first? I heard I can feel a big difference after gears 4.10 cause I have a six speed car, and also what can I expect to get off the 1/4 with 4.10's? Also the guy that works and tunes my car at daves total performance said he install the gears for 450 thats including parts is that good?

If you plan to ever race this car seriously invest in a good rear end, atleast a 12 bolt or 9". I killed 4 gear sets on the stock rear. 4.10 is the best gear for a stock car with bolt ons, with a small tire. 3.73 is slower in the 1/4, 4.56 is too much gear. If you go to a big tire the 4.56 could work. Best way to guess is run the car see what mph you're getting ,then figure out what size tire you want, what rpm you shift at and enter in the numbers in a gear ratio calculaot like the one in the tech section on markwilliams.com I have run 3.42, 3.73 4.10 4.56 and the 4.10 gave me the best 1/4 time on a 26" tire. With a good tire drag radial or slick if you can drive and get the car to hook an EASY 1/2 second maybe more. It is hard to say, with a low powered car I have gone 12.5 with only 106 mph, think the 60ft was like a 1.8 it was years ago. But if you run say a 2.2 60ft now and drop that to say a 1.9 you should in theory pick up about .6 in the 1/4 which is about 6 car lengths. good luck

Most people who put 4.10's in a 10 bolt lose time at the track.
