Announcement - EFI Nationals Cancelled for 2006 Greetings LS1TECH members,
It is with great disappointment that we are announcing that all EFI Nationals races will be cancelled for 2006. This is due to several reasons, for which I will list shortly. Last year was an excellent learning experience for us, providing both good and bad lessons. We had hoped that the GM late model LS1/LT1 crowd could support and help grow a starting racing series, but we were proven wrong repeatedly by the numbers in attendance.
We had plans for 2006 to reduce the strictness of the rules, and to open up the classes to all domestic brands of EFI performance vehicles. This was done in hopes to increase participation, and to possibly build up some nice rivalries at the track. It is still a nice goal to have, but we do not have the time or resources to accomplish this task.
To those that supported us and this series, we appreciate it greatly. Everyone that was fortunate to attend one of our events had a great time, and got to see some friends and excellent racing. Thats what it is all about, but it seems some people have lost sight of the fun aspect. Thank you to all those that made the long hauls and wrenched day and night to come race.
The EFI Nationals will remain a separate project with those involved, as we may re-gather and attempt to make plans for the future. Many things have to come together in order to pull something like this off, and rushing things never works out for anyone.
I'm sure some of you are wondering why we have decided to cancel for 2006, so I'll provide a response in order to save some of the questions to be asked.
1. Rule changes and class changes. We could never find the perfect balance for the quicker classes, and rules kept being debated and challenged. We should have stuck to our guns and left the rules alone, without discussion. Too many people were concerned with bending the rules in their own car's favor, instead of trying to benefit the spirit of competition. Lesson learned.
2. Many people try to compare our small race scene to well-established organizations such as PRO, NMCA, ORSCA, etc... and expected us to live up to those standards without the million dollar investments or sponsors. This is too much pressure to stand up to, ultimately it would end in failure.
3. It takes a fulltime staff of people to organize and operate a true racing series. We do not have that luxury, and I think we did very well last year considering the fact that we only have 5 appointed staff members that organized and operated these events in their spare time. This is another area that is impossible to improve without the big financial backing of other racing series'. Its hard to keep staff morale and excitement up when these guys work their butts off and see all the ungrateful complaining and attitude thrown at them.
4. From a business standpoint, last year was a failure. We had minimal sponsorship income, and excessive expenses. We also paid out 100% in full even without having full fields in each class, hoping this would attract more racers. Our original goal was to try and break even on these races, and we weren't even close. Without large sponsorship investments and attendance, any racing series is doomed to fail.
When these internet-based LS1 racing events first started back in 1999, it was mostly about gathering somewhere to meet the guys you hang out with on the internet, see some racing, drink some beer, tell some stories, and have a lot of fun. We had excellent times back then, and didn't worry about things like not having the quickest car, or being scared of which cars might beat your own. You came out, lined them up, and had fun. Too many people have lost sight of this, and take things too seriously now. We would like to focus back on the fun times, not the strict and serious racing drama. We might do a few regional track rental days, without much structure, just to get back to having fun as a group. Maybe if guys start coming out to race and hang out, they will be more likely to participate in a true series at a later date.
Anyways, consider this short ride postponed indefinitely. Good luck on your 2006 racing season in the other racing series' that still exist. We encourage you guys to support those races and keep them alive, to keep things similar to our situation from happening elsewhere.

Tony I hate to hear the bad news but understand completley. Hopefully everyone can come to an agreement on a date and track a couple of times this season and get back to the roots of it all. Racing, friends, beer, and fun. No points, purses (unless a deal is made between 2 parties at the starting line 
) and all around fun.
