Default Who starts in 1 with their 4L60E?

Is there anyone that starts off their auto in "1" and shifts to "2" the "3" or do you just keep it in "3" when you race at the track? Is it safe to do this every once in a while, will it hurt/help me E/T? I know that it will "accelerate" faster in "1" and "2" but will there be anything that will hurt me as far as E/T?

Let it shift itself. I leave it in Drive, not OD.

The only way it could be faster is if your car is shifting really early for some reason .. other than that just leave in it Drive ..

Why do you put it in D versus OD? Is there any advantage performance or durability wise?

I'm not asking if I should do it. I'm just asking if anyone does it I leave it on 3 which is drive, not D which is over drive.

If you put the trans in D (3), the overrun clutch is applied which helps back up the low roller clutch (sprag) and help prevent it from snapping. If the trans is in OD (4) the overrun clutch is not applied. The side effect is at the big end, you'll have engine braking - that's what the overrun clutch is really designed for

I just leave it in 3rd (T/A) or D (Z-28)

You can't beat the computer, just let it do the shifting for you, while in 3rd.
