Default What Drag tire for my 16x8 rim

What is the best Drag tire for me? I want an all out drag slick as I will only put them on once i am at the track. I plan on taking my car to the track quite a few times this year since I have my new rearend and gears. Frist what is the best hooking drag tire that will fit my 16x8 rim. Next how tall should my tire be so I wont find myself shifting into 5th gear before i complete the 1/4 mile. I have 4.11 gears. Any and all help is appreciated.

I love my Hoosier Quick Time Pro's and even though they're called a "street" tire, they're really just a slick. They're available in a couple of sizes. I've got the smaller 26 x 9.5 x 16 and it's the same size as an 8" drag slick. It hooks like mad but I'm an A4 with a SI motor and low horsepower. The larger one (28 x 11.5 x 16) may work better for you with a M6. These tires are a full 26" tall and grow ever so slightly at the end of the 1/4 mile. As long as you don't trap over 120, they should keep you off the rev limiter.

I would do the same tire, the 26x11.5. You want at least a 10.0" tread width regardless, which is what a 26x11.5" tire will give you.

I went with the smaller size because I wanted to make sure I had no clearance issues whatsoever. If I had it to do over again, I'd have gone with the 11.5's instead of the 9.5's. The 9.5's look like little toys on the back of my car but I can't argue with the hook they give.

I would assume you run at Infineon?? Just to let you know if you go a "real slick" and not an ET street slick, you will get bumped out of the street class and into the Comp rod class, not a big deal if you are ready for it.
Now if you want to stay in the street class I have a set of Mickey Thompson ET Streets 26x11.5x16's with 5 runs on them. PM if you are interested and I will give you a smoking deal (no pun intended)

I ran 26x11.5 MT's on my stock wheels last year, worked great. Drove quite a few miles on the street with them, too.

I run a set of 27 X 10.5 ET streets on my 16" X 8" Firebird wheels. They work prety good! I usually cut consistent 1.6X for my sixty foot times witht them. I have 3.73 gears though. I am actually going to try out going to a 26" tall tire this year and see how that works. I really didn't know much about the sizes when I first got them. I just bought them to fit and give me some decent traction since 2.0's is all I could cut on Nitto DR's.
