Default Got my lightweight carpet/rollbar/corbeaus installed *PICS INSIDE*

Well, since I'm stuck doing nothing while I wait for my heads, I decided to install lightweight carpet following my Wolfe rollbar installation. I read a few posts about Ozite (I think thats how it's spelled) carpet, and decided to give it a shot. I ordered 4 yards of black 80" wide carpet, and used practically all of it. I did wind up making it a 2 piece job, but it's difficult to tell unless you get right up close. Anyway, heres how it turned out:

I still have to trim the plastic sidewalls, but that shouldn't take too long. All in all, it took me one can of 3M Super duty carpet adhesive, and around 6 hours to fab the back seat filler and lay the carpet. Even with the filler, I should still be over 20 pounds ahead.

Thanks guys.
Those are Corbeau A4's done in leather. The carpet should be at least 20 lbs lighter and the seats should be at least 30 lbs lighter.

Looks great man! I'm giving that Ozite a try myself. Do you need to do a seat back support with those kind of seats to be NHRA/IHRA legal?

I can't remember the yahoo store name, but search for lightweight or ozite carpet here and you'll find the thread with the link to it. It can't be more than 4 months old.

I got the seats thru a GP. I can't remember the exact value because I bought them the end of last year, but I thought I got the seats in leather, with tracks and shipping for the low $800 range. I could be wrong on that one though.

I really like how you did the sheetmetal over the back seats..... How long did it take you to fab that up???? I'd like to do that and leave it there for something to mount electronics to...... then again it might make it look like less of a streetcar with all that stuff mounted back there....

It was pretty easy actually. I got a piece of 2'x4' 22ga (or 24ga) sheet metal, bent it lengthwise 6 1/2" in at 90 degrees. Just trim it to fit. I left at least 1/2" of the bend there over the driveshaft tunnel for stability. I mocked it up with a 2x4 piece of cardboard. I pop rivited it to the back seat mount in each corner, and the lower seat mounts in the front. And one in the middle over the driveshaft tunnel.

I tucked the carpet from each of the two sections under the front lip to give it a more seamless look. You might be able to see it in picture 4 or 5 if you look real close.

Wow that looks awesome! Once I get a cage I'll have to fab a seat delete and get that carpet. Until then, its ghetto with the no back seat/no carpet!

Hmmm, good question, I'll have to ask the tech guy. I only run the car for test and tune, so just maybe he'll let me slide on a little detail like that.
