Ac Box?

When I took the AC box out of my IROC, I took the box that held the (what the hell is it called, not the condensor..its the other finned device by the firewall) "thing" and cut it with a dremel, leaving only the flanges which bolt to the firewall and just enough "border". I then fiber glassed the opening. Came out pretty bitchen, after it was painted. At the time, you could buy an 1LE box (no AC ), but they wanted something like $300 for what I did for $10 or $20 (back in 93)

You have to pull the dash to take it out. I just got some aluminum and cut a patch. I think I riveted it in place. Painted it black and you can't even tell anything used to be there. I've heard it needs to be a certain thickness to pass a chassis certification though.

Yes you will lose your heater core and blower motor. There is a bolt directly behind the intake the needs to be taken out. There are some bolts that are kinda hidden but you'll find them. I opted to take out the stock setup and put in a mojave heater. Alot lighter and tons more room.
