Rotational Mass
Is it true that removing 50lbs from the wheels and tires will be like removing 200lbs off the car?
Im thinking to go with Bogarts 15x10 and 15x3.5 on M/T's. Those should weigh 75-90lbs less than the ZR1's 17x9.5 and 17x11 im running now.
Also which is the lightest wheels? I saw the thread about the wheels weight and i found out that the 15x3.5 usually weigh 8lbs and the 15x10 weighs 10lbs. Are there any wheels out there that are lighter than this?
Thanks

I would like to see more back to back runs with lighter wheels or brakes to prove exactly how much removing unsprung weight helps.
Back in the day, I replaced stock wheels with Volk TE-37's and flywheel with one that weighed half as much on my Talon that was running 11.20's and I didnt see a difference even worth mentioning!

to your question on lighter wheels my first set of skinnies/slicks were your typical prostars then i changed to bogarts. they were considerably lighter, then i changed to welds magnum 2.0s and you could tell they were lighter than the bogarts. never put them on a scale just your typical pick up one then the other comparison. my set-ups changed the same time the wheels did so couldnt say much about et or mph differences

When my dad used to road race and circle jerk, the 4x rule pretty much did apply when talking about sprung weight versus rotational unsprung weight. However, it doesn't apply to drag racing. From some of the math I've seen online it's more like 1.3x. I've never done back to back comparisons to test the theory though. Keep in mind that where the weight is located will affect the car too, a weight change at the center of the circle should not affect the car as much as a weight change on the outside of the circle. Just some thoughts.
But yes, you should deffinatly see an ET drop by going from ZR1s to Bogarts. Car will probrably leave better too.
