I just picked up some Bogarts with some 275/50-15's MT ET Street radials today from a member here. I've been running some itty bitty Hoosier Quick time Pro's (26 x 9.5 x 16) mounted on some stock salad shooters. Question: Am I going backwards trying the Street Radials? I'm hoping that since the radials have more sidewall and 3" more tire on the ground that I'll hook the same. I can't hope to hook any better as I can launch WFO on the Hoosier's and dead hook. I'm just hoping to be able to duplicate that. The tire/rim combo weighs about the same so no real advantage there. Maybe a couple pounds but it's still close. Anybody run both tires before? Did the radials hook and run just as well? I'm not married to the ET Street radials or anything. I'll put some more Hoosier's on the rims if they don't hook. I'm just hoping for the best at this point. Any thoughts or experiences?

Go with the new Hoosier Drag radials.... They hook like a QTP but youll pick up MPH with the radial wall..couple guys around here going 1.3-1.4's on them

I am running the MT drag radials 275/60/15 on Centerline Telstars. Getting mid 1.6's in the 60ft with them in a 4400 lb pig with no spin. With the new setup this year I am hoping for some 1.5's 60ft times with them. Love them.

I would say that if track prep is crappy, the qtp's would be the way to go. The et radials don't do good on a badly prepped track. I've hade like 2.1-2.2's on 325's on a track that was bad.

I've already pulled numerous 1.56 or better 60 foots on a set of 275/60/15 ET Street radials off the footbrake at 18 psi. Hope you have good luck with em!

We tried the new tires out last night with mixed results. It was cold for this time of year (low 50's) so we were making a tad more power and traction was harder to come by. The tires are new and I'm thinking they need some break-in period like my QTP's did. The QTP's did not hook AT ALL ON ANY PASS the first night out with them. The MT's at least hooked some on two passes. Started out with 24 PSI, drove the car to the track and ran as soon as we got there.

Pass #1 Hazed the tires for about a car length or so but 60'ed decent nonetheless.

Pass #2 after an hour cool down. Blew the tires away and almost took out the Christmas tree.
Don't have that ticket but 60' was 2.xx 660' was 8.26 I believe.

Pass #3 22 PSI hot lapped from previous pass. Dropped air pressure in staging lane. Spun a little harder than pass #1 about a car length then hooked hard and went straight.

Because of the wheelspin or maybe because of the air the car ran a decent MPH on this pass. I wish I had a 1/4 mile track close by.

Pass #4 after a lengthy cooldown. Dropped air pressure to 18 PSI. Bad mistake on my car. Car spun off the line and then went into violent wheel hop. It's never wheel hopped before in its life with a dozen different types of tires/rims/sizes so having these tires at 18 PSI had to be a factor. Had to lift twice.

Until I go back again and try a few more things the jury is still out on these tires at least on my car. The good thing is that there is none of the sway that the QTP's are famous for at any speed. The bad is that they never dead hooked on any pass. We do about a 5-6 second burnout in 2nd gear, let go of the line lock and let the tires spin until they hook. This same technique does wonders with the QTP's but maybe the MT radials need more or maybe less burnout. We'll try other burnout and launch techniques next time out. I'm sure the temp will be 20-30 degrees hotter next time out so that right there will make a huge difference in how the car runs and how the track hooks. I'll post up results as I try different things. Any thoughts and comments welcome.

Went back to the track today with the Hoosiers. Maybe I didn't give the MT's enough credit after all. Temps were warmer today but it was still around 60 degrees. Friday was at night and today was during the day if that makes any difference. If anything, the track being warmer has got to hook better. Anyhow, here's how the car ran on the Hoosiers today.

1st pass drove the car in straight to the staging lanes and ran the car. Launched at 2500 to insure no wheelspin. Car ran almost identical down to the thousandth what it ran on the first pass last night on the MT's.

There was more of a tailwind today than last night so the fact that the car ran a tad more MPH on this pass vs the first pass last night isn't all that significant IMO.

2nd pass went back to the tried and true launch technique with the Hoosiers. 3000 against the converter and mat the gas on the last yellow.

3rd pass bracket raced. Dialed in a 7.65. Broke out with a 7.64 after patting the gas once we caught the other car. Did it have a 7.60 in it today? That question will remain unanswered.


I wanted to try the MT's again in the daylight but my partner had already pulled them off and installed the Hoosiers again. What I'm seeing is that, even though the car is more consistent with the Hoosiers, ultimately the car runs about the same with either tire. If I can get the MT's to hook with a 3000 RPM WFO launch like the Hoosiers I have no doubt it'll be quicker. The MT's showed their stuff with the 89.926 MPH it ran on that one pass but I would expect the car to run more MPH with the radials vs bias ply tires. This is even in the 1/8th mile. I certainly expcet more of a difference at a 1/4 mile track. This is pure speculation at this point but I think I can prove this the next trip to a 1/4 mile track. BTW, we had almost a half tank of gas in the car today so the raceweight was back up near 3700 pounds again. Man I wish I could have a raceweight of 3000-3100 like some I've seen to really see what my SI combo can do.
