Default Is it legal (NHRA) to rivet something to your cage???

I riveted this panel to my rollcage to use as a mount for my FAST XFI box and later on someone questioned me as whether or not it was legal since prior to the rivets being riveted in I had to drill tiny holes into the cage so the rivets would go in... I cannot say for sure whether or not it's legal but I can't see why at ALL it would matter since it's not going to weaken the bar at all... The rivets are about 4 inches apart... I know that many people use their bars to attach things hell some people even drill holes to attach harness mounts but does anyone know for sure that it's legal????

I'm not sure but if I had to guess I'd say no. Looks damn good though.
I would just zip tie the panel to the cage.

I'va always been told if you drill a hole a tube must be put in and welded on both ends of the hole so it doesn't comprimise the strength of the bar.
Maybe Madman will see this and chime in.

thanks for the replies... Also the hole was only drilled on one side since I used pretty short rivets.... hell the rivets will expand inside the hole and will technically fill the hole that is drilled.... I guess it really doesn't matter since it wouldn't be the track that would say something but the person that certs my cage....

Madman, if you see this chime in....

And thanks for saying how good it looks. I think it looks clean as hell that's why i'd be mad if they were that picky about a tiny hole....

The way I do it is to drill and tap the bar I am attaching to, rivets are OK also.

When the hole is drilled through the bar on both sides is a tube required to be put in and welded on both sides Brian ?

We make sheet metal panels like that all the time that screw to the cage. We drill and tap small holes and use stainless screws.

sweet guys. Yeah I got the idea from Roofer Dave's BS3 mount when I saw the pics of his setup so thanks for the idea... I figured that rivets would be okay. The holes are tiny and the rivet expands in the hole anywayz...
