Drag car exhaust?

QTP longtubes, qtp Y pipe and a LM. I do plan to eventually have a set of duals fabbed to the car, all stainless, with 3 bolt flanges that are easy to take on and off, so I can swap cats in for emmissions easy, and replace them with a set of test pipes, or maybe test pipes with cutouts in them, or maybe a set of bullets with turndowns that I could toss on for the track and just drop the entire exhaust.

I just went from bullets on the collector to 4x9x14" oval magnaflows on the collector. It sounds SO much better now and is alot quieter than with bullets. It still may be to loud for one of the local troopers though, he gave me hell for the bullets. I may see if I can weld a baffle in an extra set of turn downs, and set it up so they can be removed and installed easily.

heh yeah... that would be nice. I'm thinking that my LM setup is probably gonna wake teh dead with teh new motor I am in teh process of having built.. if it's too loud, I think I may just put the stock catback back on the car and get a 4 inch cutout put in at the end of the Y.
When I do the duals for my car, I was planning on a pair of those really small cats that magnaflow was supposed to be coming out with, 3 bolt flange before and after them, an x pipe and dual 3 inch pipes all teh way out back over the axle, and a set of the ricer style stainless mufflers.. they would fill the transam cutout nicely, and some of those mufflers aren't too loud. Just not sure what they will sound like with 400+ inch motor with a big cam huffing thru them.
I've come to the conclusion that nothing is gonna make it quiet, just hopign that it will be quiet enough to prevent po po from harrassing me too much.

A stock catback will be quiet enough... My buddy is running a Trex/346 though a y-pipe with a 3.5 cutout on a stock catback and it is dead quiet through the catback. With the windows down you can't hear the car over the wind noise when cruizing.

I am thinking about sticking the stock catback from a '00 SS on my car(not Dual/dual), and having a 3" ORY with the dual 3 in/4 out flowmaster merge welded on. Then have the 4" cutout on the end of that.
Only problem with cats is a two-step will quickly ruin a set of Cats....

I have what looks like cats in my Y.. but they don't have much in them LOL.
I just want teh ability to slug some in and out for emmissions check every other year, the hollow ones are doing teh trick with the obd2 test and the visual, be nice to just be able to swap them in and out easy though. You'd probably benefit from the same type of flanged setup. Teh damn slip together **** sucks if you're gonna have to take it apart on any regular basis.

Local 'street car' race series rules (and many others) have to have the muffler 12" or less from the rear axle so header mufflers wont do it. I dont like TDs, hangs way too low on the LH side and all my fuel lines and junk would be right above the LH muffler.
Excellent compromise is a hooker cat back, takes 10 minutes to take the whole muffler/tailpipe assembly off and you have a cutout pretty much AND you lose 30lbs.
Now I am running a 3" Y into a flowmaster 3" to 4" merge into a single 4" bullet dumped a couple inches before the rear end. Louder then heck but simple, light weight and doesnt hang down at all..

I just put in 1 7/8" Kooks with a Texas Speed and Performance X Pipe dual with bullet mufflers and turndowns. Sounds great, not too loud but definately not quiet either.
My lines are close to the muffler and the x pipe (real close) so I triple wrapped them with the aluminized fiberglass wrap and kinda bent them up a little to get some extra clearance. I don't think the set up is too low, no lower than the header collectors (maybe very little) but I'll be avoiding as many steep driveways and speed bumps as possible anyway.
