Default Problems with BMR kmember

Has anyone else heard of people having problems with their steering shafts being too short when using a bmr kmember?

I searched and found 'slowhawk' had this problem a few years ago.

Mine is definitely not long enough to be installed properly and i've already lengthened it as much as it will go. It still needs about 1/2in

Are you using the factory rack or a manual rack. We had to have Madman weld a new extension for the manual rack .

Yes sir, I had one of them and it wouldnt work unless I hooked up the steering shaft (stock rack) then tightened everything up. But I didnt want to leave that much tension on the shaft so I ended up not using it. I saved it and it fit fine on another car so who knows. FWIW the PA fit with no problem on the same car the BMR wouldnt fit on, there is a pretty big variation in these cars plus add a some possible variation on the aftermarket parts and sometimes you get a combo that just doesnt fit..

this is a stock rack, and even with all the tension in the world, the steering rack and shaft will not bolt together.

We had trouble with one a few weeks back. BMR replaced it with no issues. It went together fine, but then the steering linkage would not reach.

This is how close it is to fitting.. just a little longer and it would have worked.

I have had probably 3 or 4 do the same thing. The problem is that they are welding the steering rack tabs too far to the pasenger side and it pulls the rack towards that side of the car. It also becomes a problem with big tube headers once the shaft is pulled that way also. It just rewelded the tabs myself.

I'd much wrather have the tabs rewelded than install a whole new piece... I don't feel like going through all the work and paying for a second alignment

i've had my bmr kmember for just over 2 years now. the welds cracked on the cross bar that goes under the oil pan and welds to the lca pockets. i had it welded up last year and its been fine untill i put that heavy *** iron block in it and it did it again. i called bmr and when i get the time/money/and all they are gonna sell me a new one for 1/2 price on an exchange since its way out of warranty. i just had my dad to "fix" it for me this afternoon (he was not who welded it the first or second time). i think it will be fine untill i get the new one this time. they told me i had the older "style" one that was proned to having that problem and they have changed the design once or twice since then.

when i installed my hooker lt's i took the shaft off (didn't take it off when i did the k-member) i noticed the steering shaft didn't look like it was "all the way on" but it has been fine for this long so i guess it is ok.
