Default Stock Z06 1/4m results inside!!

Well guys, the second time out to the track proved to me MUCH more fruitful than the 1st. If you're familiar with my first post a few weeks back (if not do a search) you'll know that I only got 2 runs in, heat soaked engine and about 104* outside temp. Best was a 12.9@113. Pitiful I know for a stock '03 Z06....but it was my 1st time to the track with it. Best 60' I could muster was like a 2.165.

Welll....fast forward a few weeks to this morning!! Got to Cecil County draway right around 9:30am, let the car cool down for about a half hour or so. Got into the staging lanes around 10, weather was great...around 75*, nice and cool. Made a total of 6 passes. I'll just mention the 1st and the best.

1st run I botched the launch like crazy, let the clutch out too quick and bogged, ended up cutting something like a 2.35 60'. Ended up runnin a 12.85@115mph. I wasn't concerned with the ET, but the trap was up 2mph from the last visit.....GREAT I thought! So I hot lapped her and ran a few more times.

Best run of the day............12.2@116mph 60' on that run was I believe a 1.95, so I know theres even more left in the car. Just need some cooler weather and more seat time. I honestly believe that this car has an 11 second pass in it. I know there's only been a handful of stock Z's dip into the 11's, but I think this car just might have it in it. The trap speed isn't extremely high....but I think theres room for a better 60'. Best 60' of the day was a 1.925 but I shifted a bit early on that run and ended up running a 12.33. The timeslips are in the car and the g/f just took it to the store. I'll update with the full slip tomorrow. Oh and all runs were caught on video, so that will be coming soon too! On another note.....I also dipped into the 7's in the 1/8th....which I've never done before and was SUPER stoked about that as well!

LETS HEAR SOME FEEDBACK!

If you can get a 1.8X you may make it.More seat time and powershifting could be what does it also.

How were you launching it? Nice job BTW. My 02 Z06 feels like a easy 12 second car.

Nice passes, BRIAN98Z28.

If you are trying to embed techniques, don't worry about coolant temperatures. But if your objective is low ET, do not hit the line (post burnout) with the coolant temp above 195. If you do, the PCM will pull timing and if the cats are extremely hot, the PCM will dump fuel to cool them off, loosing even more power. This is simply characteristic of stock tuning and doesn't vary car to car.

Finally, the key to fast times in a stock Z06 is improved driving. There is very, very little variation in the power of stock motors car to car. That means any stock 2002+ Z06 is an 11 second car with the right driving techniques and track conditions.

PSJ- As far as launch technique, I varied the launch speed between 2500-3000rpm. I found that the best launches came at around 2800 or so. For me it was the perfect balance between too much RPM which would cause me to spin, and too low which would cause me to bog. Basically I just did what I would call a cross between a clutch dump and a feathering/riding the clutch technique. I let the clutch out fairly quickly while still on the gas and was at full throttle in 1st almost instantly. Tire pressure was around 23-24psi and I was VERY surprised yet again at how well the stock tires hooked.
Ranger, thanks for the info regarding the coolant temp/tuning issue. Thats good to know. All the runs were made with the temps between 220-230*, so next time I'll def. have to let it cool down longer. When will you be at Cecil next? Would love to get some pointers first hand from you. Also, all runs were power shifted, so there isn't really any more room for growth in that dept.

Also, Carbed4thGen........the Z06 is the g/f's car!! ;-) Hot huh?

My next racing day is Sep 17 at Capitol, the semi-annual Corvette Club of America drag day. Usually involves 100+ Vettes and decent track prep. Happy to hook up there.

Will probably make Cecil, MIR and Capitol at least twice each before the season ends.
