Default Can I put a 28" slick on a 8" rim?

I have a set of MT 28x10.5's that I would like to use, but I don't have 10" rims for them. I have 26x10.5's on my Weld 15x8's, and if it will be safe to do so, I'd like to try the 28's on the rims I have. I do have tubes for them if that makes any diff. Have people done this?

I don't think that's gonna be a good idea. I'll be surprised if someone has had success with that set up. May not be safe either.

I've run a 28 x 10.5 M/T ET Drag on an 8" rim. Granted they bulge a little but plenty of people have done this without any problems. a 10" rim will allow for a wider footprint and take a little of the diameter out of the tire, but otherwise you're fine.

I would reccomend MT's 28x9 ET drag for an 8" rim... I did run a 28x10 Hoosier slick on my old 7.5" convo pros... it worked ok, but the tire bulged quite a bit... I now run MT's 28X10.5S on a 10" rim and fits much better!

Here's a photo of the tire on my old rims...

And here's the same 28x10 Hoosier on my new 10" rims... I switched to MT's stiff sidewall slick to prevent the tire from distorting so much...

It will bulge but it will work. I run the same setup, but will be getting a 15x10 for the bigger foot print.

Is rolling the fenders a must when running the 8" rim? I have not done that and would love to not have to at the moment, eventually, just not right now.

I run a 28x10.5W on an 8" rim (draglite).. They bulge but i haven't had any problems.... "however" I am switching to a 10" rim once the project frees up some cash to allow me to buy wheels...

The 8in wheel is actually the recomended wheel for that tire. I prefer the stability of the 10in wheel my self so that is what I choose

I can tell you all the fast guys (talking mid and high 7's in the 1/4) on the 28.10.5 use 12" wheels. Gives a little larger contact patch and more stability on the top end.

x2. the smaller the wheel with a large tire, it seems the more they like to track around on the big end.

Are you sure about that? On the MT site they say use a 10" wheel for all the 28x10.5 tires. They do have a 9" tire like previously stated that is made for a 8" rim though.

Did a quick search on jegs and Summit. I went through the same thing on my tires but I like the big wheel so she don't squirm. The Smaller wheel lets them get up on the bulge at the top end.
