looks like the KTS chasis motor plate setup...same one i have.

Does it only come just as wide as the inside of the frame rails? or did you cut it like that? Im surprised the top of the motor plate doesnt hook over on to the top of the frame rail.

BTW: if thats a wolfe torque arm, its upside down.

motor plate allows you to move the motor down and back in the car to change the center of gravity of the car. it also frees up a lot of room around the motor for bigger headers and other things of that nature. i'm sure it helps a lot with stiffening up the front of the car also by tying the motor into the front suspension

Very well put, plus in the old days we only had stock blocks to build up.

On really high powered cars u could actually rip the motor mounts out of the block. Cracks in the block = bad! ! ! !

well, back in the day the old small blocks ahd the motor mounts in the front of the motor also, not on the side of the block like the LS1 block and newer SBC blocks.

what are the two bars mounted to the frame rail just ahead of the plate brackets, are those part of the bracket or just additional bracing?

additional bracing... most of the guys i've seen running them have done something similar to that.

You are old, I don't remember seeing a SBC without the pad on the side of block. Were the blocks made of wood back then???? I started working on cars in the early seventies, and don't recall seeing any.

i know 55-57 chevys didn't have the 3bolt mounts on the side. i Believe the very early 60's is when they added the side mounts.Ill ask my dad when he gets home. He's 59, he will know......lol.

old? i'm 23, i've just been around the block a few times and seen just about everything having to do with an SBC of any generation.
