Default My Cowl & Radiator support removal pictures

Here lately, I decided it was time to finish up the rest of the fabrication on the front end of my car. To fit my Victor Jr, 2" spacer, and Wison Dominator flange TB, I needed to remove the cowl/windhield area. Alot of cars have it slightly trimmed to fit, but IMO that looks like crap that anybody can do.

I cut out the amount that I needed, and then welded back in a new piece of 16 ga steel. It wasnt too bad, but it wasnt the worst thing I have done to this car. I had a friend come over and weld up the sheet metal since I havent welded too many things that thin. Thicker stuff is fine, but this thin metal is a PITA to weld. I have since gotten the area all filled and sanded down, primed and ready to be painted. Looks alot better now with the filler and primer all on it.

I also cut out the lower radiator support too. I wanted to run a different radiator so it needed to go. Just a few days ago, I had the tubing bent and installed it. I will have some pictures of that up soon too.

BTW, I did everything except for the welding part as I dont have that much experience welding sheet metal

I've just recently finished my cowl as well. I'm also cleaning up the left side of the cowl; that area is a bit harder to form the metal to.

By the end of the weekend I hope to have a smoothed out engine compartment, all holes have been welded and smoothed. Should look real clean when painted.

Wow, did you have Todd come over and tape all that up? Looks

We did ours a little different, we block ours off at the firewall, that gives us plenty of room for a distributor... apples : oranges

Actually, I got that idea from when I made a visit to W2W to drop the motor parts off I wanted to use something that the hot metal filings and welding slag wouldn't burn through as easily. Paper does work good, but I wanted my windshield to look normal too....meaning no burn marks.

It was only about $5 worth of tape too

I was thinking about doing what Brady did on his car, but I only needed room for my Wilson TB up top. This will work fine for what I am doing

No this is a lot of tape:


Looks really good. What's the deal with running a different radiator? Do you plan on some route of forced induction that'll interfere with the stock unit? Or are you just going to a smaller lighter weigh unit?

Here are a few more pictures after I did some body work. I have used a special filler to fill in most of the holes on the shock towers, and to fill in the low spots on the cowl area.

I don't remember off hand, but I know the filler is still out in the garage in the cabinet. I will check tomorrow and respond back. I got it through my uncle as he owns his own bodyshop. He gave me the plastic filler to use, and then he did all the paint work.

You guys will have an answer tomorrow

I guess I forgot to post pictures after it was painted It has been painted for a while now...so long that the car is done and driveable now
