Default 12 bolt drop out 9 inch centersection

any of yall ever seen or used one....basically its a 9 inch centersection that uses 12 bolt guts

http://www.strangeengineering.net/catalog/pages/075.jpg

seems like you can make a 9 inch lighter than a 12 bolt...and also less power loss....

what yall think bout it?....

It's only designed for super stock type cars and is not intended for use in high horsepower applications such as a Nitrous or Turbo/Supercharged car. Before purchasing that center section, you may want to contact Strange directly.

All the 12 bolt failures I have seen have something to do with the gears themselves, the posi, or the carrier. Why would you want to take the most failure prone pieces of a 12 bolt and put them in a 9" housing? Just live with the less effiecent 9" center chunk that you know is strong.

Looks like a way to blow money to me. If you want a front loading 8 3/4 rear end then just get the Mopar 8 3/4 rear and know its strong and has a far superior posi unit to any 12 bolt ever made aftermarket or otherwise. The Powerlok posi rocks. I would use an ordinary 9 inch Ford if I were you. Third members are falling out of every truck at the junk yard if you get in a bind and need a spare one in a hurry. I like the Detroit True Track for the ford 9 inch myself.

I have ran that center in the first LS motor Camaro we ever built. With standard Richmond gears it was breaking at the 9.50 range on a na engine. With a pro gear set I ran as fast as 9.3X without breakage, but the standard 9 inch would be safer.

Like anything else it depends iif you want the few extra less % of drag or do you want the strength. If you were building an all out NHRA stocker/super stocker or comp car and hundreths mean winning or losing no matter what the cost with reduced reliabilty that rear would be great.

One of the suckiest things in the world is having to get dragged off the starting line with a floor jack and trying to get your car on a triler with a locked up rear end, I prefer to lose a couple hundreths and not have to worry about it every time I let go of the trans brake
