weight & random questions
How much lighter is a chromoly torque arm, lca, and panhard is it worth selling all the stuff I have and starting over? I wanting to go to a fab 9 with an aluminum center but was wondering if it is even lighter then my strange 12 bolt? Which is also forsale. Also can I cut out my 6 point and resell it?

Ahhh.. Sounds like you have been talking to Burkhart. I am putting all their rear suspension stuff on mine. It will weigh less than th mild steel stuff. Not sure how much but it will be less.
The big advantage is strength. The mild steel rear mount plate on the old TA was tearing. One or two more wheels up launches and it would not have stayed connected to the rear end. That would have messed up my day a lot. Also the tunability of the new TA and LCAs will be a big benefit. Instead of having just pinion angle, I will have a wide range of tuneability in the TA.
Is it worth starting over? Not sure. I had no option. Just glad it will be done before the mild steel stuff failed.
If you are talking to Burkhart ask Dave for the pictures of my rear TA mount.

Talk to Burkhart first. I think you will be suprised at price and quality. They have my car now for the cage and a lot of other stuff. It passed NHRA tech this weekend. I should have it back soon I hope.

Defianatly talk to Dave before you spend $700 on a madman or wolfe torque arm. Those are both great parts, but for the price Dave has you can't beat it.
Mustangeater, can you please send me a few pics of your Burkhart torque arm? Thanks!!

From what I have looked into on the weights, the average is the CM stuff weighs about 1/3 less then the same item in MS...
So if you are talking full suspension, t/a, cage and all from CM over MS then you could save a decent chunk of weight, for example if all that stuff in MS adds up to 200# then the same stuff in CM will be ~132# and stronger...
I did a lot of research before even doing my SFC's and got a custom set in CM and thay came out only adding 10# total to the car...

You have to remember that not all of a parts weight is the tubing, something like an LCA with rod ends, plugs and hardware will be very little difference, same with a front A-arm. While something like like a roll cage or torque arm with a lot of tubing it will make more difference.
IMO a chrome moly part isnt that much stronger since the tubing thickness is less, now if both tubes were the same thickness the CM would be stronger but it would also weigh the same
Depending on the application and where the part is used I think mild steel is sometimes a better way to go since its easier to work with and less prone to failure at the welds if not done perfect..

Agreed. hOWEVER cm PLATES vs ms plates are far stronger. The ms plate on my TA is what failed. The CM part will hold up much better. Not so much weight for me but need and safety.

What kind of torque arm did you have? I'm still on a randon tech stock style and a lot of 1.2x 60 foots and its fine - its about as mild steel of a bracket as you can get

It was a very popular brand. I don't want to post the sponsor cause of internet bullshit. It lasted 6 years was a short style TA and tore 3 of 4 bolt holes on the rear mount. May have been a fluke I don't know. I will be going CM this time around. Again it's more need than want. The MS TA worked great. It just failed for some reason.
