Default Cage coating?

hey guys,

I am goina order a wolfe 6 point weld in, 'moly

There isn't a powdercoating shop within reason of where I live...what other choices do I have to make it look nice?

I could rattle can it with black gloss, since i have a black car

but i am guessing that the paint will get stratched off at the door bars from people getting in and out. I dont' want to use the foam padding either

what can i do?

POR-15 lays down nice and flat when using a brush. It's tough too. Pick up a pint and give it a try on a test panel. Also, JAZ makes some nice low profile padding and the Jeg's stuff looks decent too.

Don't forget to use some of their Metal Ready first. It will stick better.

It's an epoxy coating. It's mainly used to seal rusted parts but, will work on bare metal too. http://www.por15.com/

I've used VHT chassis epoxy paint with great success in the past too. Available in rattle cans from summit

I dropped my car off at the body shop and had him spray it with my own custom color. Straight fine grain silver metallic flake mixed with clear... No color at all. From a distance, it looks like polished aluminum, sparkly up close. With the 2 coats of Dupont Chroma Premiere clear coat it is gonna stay nice as well.

remember if you wanna go fast nhra is putting the smackdown on certifing cages with coatings because the extra thickness of the coating screws with their wall thickness gauge.

68maro is correct, but I don't think the POR-15 will be that thick. Plus i'm not going faster than 9.99 so i don't need it certified

Last night I bought a bottle of Metal Ready, POR-15 primer, and POR-15 glossy black.
~$90, but it'll look badass when its done

NORMALLY you don't need the primer, but I bought this glossy black por-15 (which of course cost more and requires the primer)

so if you want flat black, it'll probably only set you back $50

Another thing you can do to protect your paint is a large clear sticker, like the stuff that you can use to laminate stuff at home. I don't remember what its called but it tough ****. Just put it on the areas where you are concerned about the paint getting messed up. But thats it, once its on if you remove it you take a chance of it pulling off the paint with it. I did that on a friends roll bar awhile ago and still looks great. If I can remember what the stuff is called i'll post it up.
