Default LS1 to powerglide flexplate

Can you use the stock LS1 automatic flexplate?

I have a TCI also, I have heard stories about having to grind the powder coating off the bolt locations.... might do a search regarding that and the issues others have had in the past.

TCI here also Phil.... just make sure the people who make your converter know its going on a LS1 so they can add the extra 3/8" or so(forgot exactly how much) to the snout of the verter.

i think they "fixed" the issue i got mine when they first came out. it had a textured coating on it & i had the flexplate/crank bolt problem. i just ground the coating off the bolt pattern and fixed the problem. i have seen about 5 since with a painted finish. i guess they cought on to the mishap.

You should definitely sand ANY powdercoating off of all bolting or mating surfaces. I have had TCI plates com loose because of the powdercoat.

It depends on the convertor bolt pattern but i run the Coan aluminum one. its the orange aluminum one someone else makes it and they rebadge it. it has sbc bolt pattern and ls1 for the convertor. just make sure the convertor has the 1/2" locator extention welded on.

I have had the hughes, its an exact copy of a stock 98 flexplate but thicker metal and the starter gear is welded in more places, works though and is SFI. I use the TCI one this car and you have to grind the coating off where it touches the crank and the bolt face touches or they will loosen up. Also a good idea to use red loctite and a decent torque wrench on those bolts..

Its funny because the older TCI flexplate I had was thinly painted and the new one I bought for this car had the super thick coating on it lol.
