HELP! Why are my ETs so crappy?
Can someone give me some insight as to why this car with a built motor only goes 13.00 at 105. The car is a 98 Camaro, 3550 lbs. with driver. The motor is a stock cid, stock compression, forged and balnced bottom end. It has GTP stage 1.5 heads (A little extra on the exhaust side) and a custom grind cam 228/230 580/590 on a 112, advanced 2 degrees. Outside we have an LS6 intake and the big Dynatech steppped headers going through a true dual 3" exhaust. All the larger stuff on the exhaust side and 10/1 compression were chosen for nitrous use. These times are N/A though. The converter is a Pro Yank 3600, in a fresh 4l60E. The gears are stock 3.23s and we are using 26" ET streets. The best 60 ft. the car has shown is 1.97, and this is leaving at 2800 rpm. This is at a sea level track and the car wasn't spinning, so I cant blame altitude or track prep. I was expecting at least a 12.4 around 112, please help me get there. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Re: HELP! Why are my ETs so crappy?
I'll take a shot, but I'm by no means an expert. Biggest thing might be tuning. If the car still has a stock tune, the mods you've done are pretty extensive. Even my car with just headers and a Yank SS3800 has some tuning issues. With a cam, headers, converter, intake, etc. you probably need a good custom tune.
If you have access to Autotap or EFI live you'd have a better idea of what's happining. If you don't have any of that, a run on the dyno with wideband o2 reading will give you even better info.
Your 60's are also pretty low for a 3600 stall. Maybe with the large headers and no tune, you've lost a lot of torque. Regardless, even with a 1.97 60', your mph should be in the 110+ range.
The other major impact is weather. If you were running at sea level, but it was 100 degrees and high humidty, that could have a 3 or 4mph affect.
Hope this helps. At least maybe you can give us some more info on if you've had a tune, weather, etc.

Re: HELP! Why are my ETs so crappy?
35th,
It was about 75 degrees at time of runs. It has been tuned at MTI vehicle in hand. The slip on collectors are causing an exhaust leak and the LT fuel trims are up in the 20's I know its running rich and killing torque, but 50 ft/lbs and 50hp? How much do you you all think it would pick up if I put a 3.73 in it and had the tune right on. Also I was wondering if advancing the cam two more degrees would help bring the power band down some. ????????

If it was tuned at MTI they prolly tuned it for the juice. A nitrous tune will be rich anyway and the exhaust leak will make it worse. I would say N/A with those mods you should be trapping 118-122 and runnin mid to low 11's.
Check with MTI and see if they tuned for nitrous. Lean makes power unless you spray it.
Good luck, Stu

Something is definitely wrong, more than just a tuning issue. I would get the exhaust leak fixed, then go from there. The leak can cause strange O2 readings which can seriously sap performance.

you've got a serious problem. If the car is tuned correctly which I highly doubt because to run that slow with above mods you HAVE to have mechanical issues!! Like running on seven cylinders...
