Default PAINLESS Charging Shutdown Relay > Question

Installed this thing just like the instructions said. Works fine to kill the car, but doesn't seem to charge worth a crap. The needle on my gauge stays below the 13 mark and nearly down to the yellow hatched area. I assume this is because the relay only uses a 10-gauge wire to feed the battery.

Any recommendations on this? Cut both of the red 10-gauge leads and relace with heavier gauge?

That would be my first guess... There has to be a pretty significant voltage drop across that long 10ga. wire.

I thought about buying that same kit, but it's not intended for high current alternators like we have. Painless has a new kit for high current alternator cars, but they don't seem to have assigned it a p/n yet, so I don't think it's actually been released.

Went down to Napa and bought some 2 gauge wire. Will replace the 10 gauge stuff and see what happens. The 10-gauge wire was feeling very warm with the car running. Must have been trying very hard to move all that current.

After running the 2-gauge stuff from the alternator to the relay, it is at least sitting at 13 amps now. I can live with that I guess.

George the high amp kit has been released. I got mine from summit racing. Its not on their website but they do have it. It shuts the car down but for some odd reason it keeps draining the battery, so i have to hit my cutoff switch all the time.

Gimp...what kind of wiring did the high-amp version come with?

George, I don't have the P/N but call them they do carry it. It was about 70 bucks

Todd, I think it came with 6 gauge. My voltage hangs around 13.5-13.1

Thanks man. Mine is hivering around 13 with the heavier gauge, so I will see how things go.
