Default Tried searching, but it's crap. What front skinnies to run?

I've tried searching for info but the search feature on this site is the worst I've seen.Anyways I bought 15x3.5 1.75 b.s weld but am having trouble locating tires.I heard people say "go to pepboys and get some vw type tires, 165r15 but they are special order around here. Then I've read they are not safe anyways. So then I went to jegs to buy some mickey thompson 1573's,which are 8 ply rated for 3000 pounds weight, but I think they are bias ply tires.I have read when using drag radials out back and bias up front it will drive shitty. It's still going to be a street driven car sometimes. Also tire rack is on back order for kuhmo 165/80/15's.What should I do???

Thanks much
Jay

Here is what you need, you need something designed to carry the weight of an F Body. 2 different versions weight wise. I have these on the front, 325/50 drag radials on the rear and it drives just fine.

I run the Mickey Thompson Sportsmans as well. I run the 8-ply one.

MTT-1573's 8 ply is probably the best bet for a light weight tire for the nose of a heavy weight f-body. Lots of guy run the Kuhmo 165/80 r15's. Tire Rack has them for $32 each tire but they are on backorder.. I've seen them on ebay but they only sell them in sets of 4 for around $150-200. I just might buy the set of 4 then sell off 2 tires or get the MT 1573's 8 ply's since currently I have bias ply ET streets on stock 16" wheels for the rear.

These guys are right. Summit M/T sportmans. For a 3k+lb car its better to run a 8ply sidewall tire. I used to run those el cheapo pep boys tires and they are only 4 ply so no matter how much air I put in them they always looked low on air. Plus if I remember correctly they are only speed rated up to 118mph. Which for 1/4 mile burst they are probably ok but I'd tend to lean on the caution side. So I went with the M/T. Only downside is that they are a tad bit heavier than the pep boys tire. -Mark

I have the Kumho 165R15s now and am getting rid of them. Like Mark said, no matter how much air you have in them, they always look low. And my car only weighs 3050. They work fine on cars that see regular street driving or slower 1/4 mile times. I have MT Radials out back, but will be going with an ET Front bias-ply up front.

Thanks, for the help. While I was waiting for more opinions I found out tire rack had 2 165 80 15 kuhmos that weren't spoken for so I ordered them ,but am already kinda regretting based on the comments above.I do want it safe but was trying to avoid the 167.00 a piece tire too.I would say I will hit the track once a month at the most when I finally get ready to go and maybe drive it once a week to work..I guess I'll mount these, unless I change my mind and get the MTT 6652 radial. The 118 mph rating will hopefully be where I'm at, but that's taking the 165 80 15 to the limit.
Thanks for the help.
I'll keep ya posted, which also helps the other poor saps trying to use this pitiful search feature.

$167 a piece is way over priced. I just paid $130 a piece for my ET Fronts and they are more expensive than the MT Sportsmans. Check with some of the sponsors, they should be able to help you.
