Default ET differences with an aluminum vs steel flywheel?

I'm getting ready to ditch my aluminum flywheel for a steel one since I can't cut better than very high 1.6x 60ft or low 1.7x 60ft with 3.73 gears on ET streets launching at 6500rpms. ~3600lb raceweight

Since then I've added weld in subframe connectors and LCA relocation brackets, and hope to get some 4.33's in the car and some ET drags/skinnies in the near future. I'm also getting a 1LE rear swaybar soon as well with poly bushings. If all these changes I've listed will net me a 1.5x 60ft without a steel flywheel I'll keep the aluminum flywheel. I still have stock shocks, but was hoping I could cut some good times without upgrading.

What do you all think? Can I cut 1.5x's with an aluminum flywheel and the changes I've listed?

That would be baddass if you could, might convince to go back with an aluminum one. But I went from 12.20 with 1.8 60' and aluminum FW to 11.8 with 1.5 60' and steel flywheel. MPH was the same @ 116mph. This was with TR224 and stock heads.

Justin, did you drop .3 with the same suspension/tire setup? I'm assuming you now cut consistant 1.5x.

I went from BFGs to slicks, suspension stayed them same ( only mods were prokit springs and BMR LCAs ). Track was super sticky, I was launching off the 6600rpm rev limiter.

I honestly think the switch to 4.33s and slicks is going to get your car in the 1.5s with the aluminum FW. I've seen a couple people do it thats why I might switch back b/c it was better for street racing.

If you get some weight out of the car and up to 4.10's you will cut some 1.5's I only made 2 passes on my car and they were a 1.60 and a 1.55 60' leaving the line around 5500 rpm's

Wow, good info here. Friend of mine is contemplating an alum FW, I keep telling him its going to hurt him at the track but he wont listen.

Guess I'll have to show him this page.

I have an aluminum flywheel in my Cobra and in my 5.0 race car and have no intentions of going back to steel. From everything I have seen/experienced, there is very, very little to be gained or lost - in 60 ft - from one or the other. A recent article by Evan Smith in MM&FF will back this up.

What the aluminum flywheel certainly will do is help the car a bit down the track, and it will be significantly easier on driveline parts.

Well, I'm getting there....4.33s are on the way, and I just bought Jantzer's Odyssey 925 off of him to replace the 44lb Optima Yellow top...20lbs down, 200 more to go
