Default What MT Drag Radial 315/45/16 or 255/50/16

I'm going to be swapping the Magnums for a CCW drag pak which are 16x5 and 16x10. I go to the track maybe once a year if that so the added weight and tire selection of the 16" wheel compared to my current 15" wheel doesn't really bother me. The wheels I'm getting have a pair of ET Streets on them but I don't really care for the lack of stability on the big end.

I want a MT drag radial and the two choices I have are 255/50/16 or 315/45/16. Would either one be better than the other? Does the obvious size difference between the two tires mean I'll be better off with the 315 or should I stick to the smaller 255.

Best 60 foot on a 275/50/15 with a baby launch has been a 1.56 spraying the car a few after leaving the line in an attempt to not brake the 10 bolt that was in it. I'm really just trying get the the car to hook up from a dig on the mean streets of Mexico . My suspension consists of Afco front and rear shocks, Wolfe sway bar, Spohn t/a, 12 bolt and BMR LCA's. The 60ft time above was before the shocks, sway bar and 12 bolt were installed. The car has a 3600 stall, cam and gas on it.

I like sidewall but the 255 may not be wide enough for your needs. I think I would end up going with the 315's.

255 will be stretched on those wheels...maybe a 16x9 would be alright...
the 315 would be better just less sidewall...

315/45/16 has a taller sidewall than a 255/50/16.

I run the 255's at the track and net the 60' in sig.. From roll, I lit the tires up pretty good on the street though. I would go with the 315's.

Not really sure if my car needs a 28" tire. It seemed to do fine on the 26" radial and figured the next step up to a 27 would be ok too. 28" may be more than I need.

On my 275's I can hook good at the track and just about any mile an hour roll on the street but can't hook for crap from a dig on the street. I've been researching the 16" sizes and notice the 315/45/16 doesn't look like my 275's they have a completely different thread pattern. I wonder if they will work as good as my current ones do.
