Default ASP pulley - legal?

How fast do you have to be before a SFI rated dampner is needed to pass tech at the track? Or is it wise to just go ahead and upgrade on a mid 10's N/A car and an occasional high 9's n2o car?

Thanks

The ASP pulley's are SFI approved now. They have been out for a couple of months now.

How do I know if it is a new model (would imagine it would be stamped with a SFI rating)? Was on the car when I bought it. If the pulley is torqued on correctly do I need to worry about having it keyed? Saw a guy lose one of these at the track and it wasn't pretty - put a hole in his oil pan.

Hmmm - mine is all black, but I know it is at least 18 months old if not older. The new one's are not stamped or tagged anywhere? How do you tell the difference between an old one and a new one.

Look at the Thunder Racing web site in our sponser section. They have a very good picture of what the SFI looks like. Hope this helps.

No one has answered how fast you need to go before you need an sfi approved one yet.

Quote straight from the NHRA rule book.

"All classes, with the exception of Stock and E.T. cars slower than 10.99 seconds, harmonic balancer meeting SFI Spec 18.1 or solid metalic hub mandatory. All cars with pressed-on front harmonic balancers must have such installed to protect accidental loss (i.e., drilled and bolted)."

So it looks like 10.99 or faster

Now the question is - Is the ATI worth 250 more dollars than the ASP pulley? Got a pretty good chunk of change in this motor, just want to do it right the first time (but not just **** my money away)
