Default Attention all T-Top cars

Straight from the horses mouth(NHRA Tech GUY Danny Gracia) ALL TTOP CARS ARE NOW CONSIDERED OPEN COCKPITS. This means we have to follow the same rules as convertibles.
13.99 needs a rollbar and 10.99 needs a roll cage. Also if any car has a roll bar etc. then you MUST have a 5pt harness. Stock seat belts are not legal.

I dont agree and have been arguing all week with NHRA about this but I'm just a small chassis shop so I have no pull.

The new rule revision will be publisised in the National Dragster soon.

So byron, GLD, and WIR(Wisconsin International raceway) are all IHRA right? Are they still keeping the original rules?

Chris

PS- how do you think it will affect street racing? More people going out and doing it since they don't want to cut up their cars, cause even a stock LS1 is gonna be faster than that

Well I came to a conclusion that the person making this rule is obviously a mustang driver. Figuring he can get rid of MOST F-body competition. My car is running 12.2in the summer heat, I was gonna put a cage in next year so I can build the car faster. Anyhow THIS SUCKS THE TAILPIPE!!!!

It takes a LS1 owner to say something stupid like that. :p

What a gay rule. I know the NHRA tries to protect us, but come on now. I sure am glad I bought a coupe.

locally in FL, BMP, one of the best tracks, has been hinting of this rule for a little while. the enforcement has been hit and miss but they say 13.49 and faster, and you have to have a rollbar. suckage, i understand safety is number one, and cars are getting insanely fast with tire and suspension now, but still, it isnt cool. a stock car will need a cage. oh well, to bad.

This new rule is really NHRA tracks are becoming such because they only want to attract the big dollar races like Route 66 by me. Screw NHRA im sticking with IHRA they might not have as good of tracks but they are for the everyday guy.

Well that is kind of hard to do if the closest IHRA or 1/8 mile tracks are too far away to run for a slip.
Well I came to a conclusion that the person making this rule is obviously a mustang driver. Figuring he can get rid of MOST F-body competition.
What's next, removable hard tops (vettes). Are F-bodies the only cars available with t-tops?
Something had to happen to spark this rule, I'd be interested in knowing what that was exactly. Before I purchased my car I knew exactly what it was going to be used for so I bought a hard top, no option car and it looks like I did the right thing, but hopefully soon I will have a roll bar going into it anyways. But putting a rollbar in a basicly stock car that someone just wants to take the the track to see how it runs, just to get kicked off is complete and totally uncalled for. There sure wont be any f-bodies at the Super Chevy event coming up next month at HRP. Well all the LS1 events from here on out will only be filled with fast cars. Those 12 sec index classes will be very small Need to make sure the events will be held at decent IHRA tracks I guess.
