Default 28x10.5x15 ET Drag?

Would a 28x10.5x15 ET Drag work ok on my car?

I have a SS3800 converter and can not get traction with 275x50x15 BFG DRs and was looking at getting ET Drags. Come Christmas I will be getting 3.73 gears but I am only running 3.23s right now.

I was wanting to get the 28s not the 26s, because I was told the 28s will pick up my mph.

I am pulling low 1.8 60's right now, but I am doing everything I can to keep the a$$ to the ground.

i think you might want to delete this and put it in the Wheels/Tire forum or the drag racing forum. But, in all honesty, I think you'll get the traction you are looking for by just going with the e.t. drag. Even with the 3.73's, I'd think that a 26x10.5x15 e.t. drag would work great. The 28's would basically give you a lower numerically rear gearing, basically like a 3.55 or something close to that, not 100% sure. BUT, it would have a larger contact patch to get traction. are you stock motor, cam, head/cam, stroker??? I still think a 26" is all you would need.

Yeah what setup do you have?

BFD DR's were better than street tires but I hooked great on 26" slicks.

A 28x10.5" slick is a pretty good sized tire, and could possibly slow you down a tad if you aren't geared for it...

The will hook, though...

Whoever told you a 28 will help your MPH was wrong.

A taller tire will HURT your MPH..a 26" tire will trap a couple MPH more than a 28" will on a typical LS1 regardless of mods.

I hooked a bunch of 1.50's with 26x12.5x15 ET Streets on 15x10 Welds.

Uhhh, no. It'll bring your MPH DOWN a little, not up. It, being taller, gives it a gearing disadvantage compared to a shorter tire. Also, it's heavier and harder to accelerate.

I definitely wouldnt try out 28" tires. They weigh more and give you a gearing disadvantage. I think you'd be suprised how easily the 26x10.5x15 ET Drags will hook. They dont even compare to DRs. You should be able to hook pretty good on 26x10.5x15 ET Streets even. Low 1.6s should be doable with stock suspension. Also, I've heard the Hoosier slicks hook better than the MT tires, so you may want to try those.

Help me understand why. A larger tire has more circumference correct? So based on that a car at the same rpm and gear ratio would cover more distance per revolution of the tire than a smaller one. If the two cars where give the same travel time at the same rpms, the larger tire would travel more distance. Thus the larger tire would have a higher mph. Seems like the larger tire would [i]increase[/b] the cars mph.

A taller tire will increase top speed MPH, but when going to a 28" tall tire on a 3.23 geared car, you did the exact same as keeping the 26" tall tire and going to a 2.95-3.00 gear. Because of this, you will not accelerate as quickly.

A taller tire is harder to turn over, since there is more tire.

I personally would go to a 26" tall ET Drag.

Every 1" you add to you tire height, changes your gearing by about 0.1:1. So if you had 3.42 gears with 26" tall tires and then switched to 28"ers, you'd change your effective gear ratio to about 3.22:1

I already explained it when I said...

"It, being taller, gives it a gearing disadvantage compared to a shorter tire. Also, it's heavier and harder to accelerate.

True, at a given RPM you will be going faster (same as with numerically lower gears) but, you will not be turning the same RPM across the line. You'll turn less with the taller tire. The MPH loss comes from the gearing disadvantage (like with numerically lower gears you will not accelerate as quickly.) It also comes from the tire being heavier and harder to accelerate.

Taller tires are GREAT when you're geared correctly for them and you actually need the extra traction provided by them.

So with 3.90 or great gears, a 28" tire should work out?
