Default East Coast Dyno #s vs West Coast #s

I have to ask you guys...my car at TTP in NJ put down 345hp and 360tq corrected with slp dual dual, kooks lts, cats, and a tune. I'm seeing guys on the west coast putting down #s like 360hp 370tq with the same mods....whats the deal? are these numbers uncorrected? or will I pick up some extra power due to the lower humidity and stable weather?

no 2 cars with the same mods will hardly ever dyno the same. hp doesnt matter anyway look at my hp and then look at my track times. its all about the track times. dynos are just good for tuning and unfortunately bench racing

yeah, you can't really compare two cars that were dynoed on different dynoes in different places with slightly diffrerent mods. You'd have to run the same dyno back to back or better yet run them at the track together.

SAE, which isnt perfect is there for a reason. For correction on variations.

This being that the car is exactly the same.

That is a real answer. The Southern Lights are even stronger in the Southern Hemisphere. They affect the atmosphere and meteorological components even more than the Northern Hemisphere. That is why the cars in Australia tend to dyno even higher on average.

Geographically the West Coast is closer to Alaska where the Aurora Borealis is the strongest. The strongest time of the year has already past. The next strong event is expected to occur on 4/1/09. The weakest time is expected to be on 10/31/08. The date is roughly 6 months from the high point.

So you can see there is kind of a sine wave going in 6 months cycle. This is an interesting phenomena that is still under study. It affects more things than horsepower on the dyno. Interesting subject and thank you for bringing it up.

Could just be there's more BS on the west coast although the east coast certainly has no shortage.

Dyno's are tools, not ***** measuring devices. I wouldn't worry about it if the car is tuned well. The number are what the numbers are.

Agreed... The SAE correction factor is good when comparing cars on the same dyno the same day. Past that, it has wayyyyyy too much fluctuation in numbers. The correction favor; in hot vs. cold weather is off. I.E. Right now since it is cold your car will probably dyno about 5-7% above SAE (SAE will correct the number down), vs. in the summer when SAE will only be a few percent from the UNC in winter.

Just for example: Cars that make let's say on a 40 degree day - 370rwhp UNC / 350 SAE. Will usually make on a 75 degree day 365 SAE...

It just never makes sense, I always show the Uncorrected & SAE numbers to my dyno clients. Don't read into dyno numbers, it is a very useful diagnostic and tuning tool. Let the track and "SOTP" tell you how fast the car is.
