Default 2001 2500 HD silverado

Did better than i imagined, i assumed 260 maybe, but stock put down 272 HP and 286 RW torque, for 177 K miles i was pretty impressed.

Now, tuned, it did 292 RWHP and 312 RWTQ, it has a K&N drop in and 4 inch exhaust from the stock Y merge back. I still have not done the coolant bypass and what not.

I think through a 4L80 trans, big *** 2 piece drive shaft, 8.5 rear and 265/75/16 tires, it was pretty decent.

The best intake for the trucks is a stock intake box with a K&N filter and the bottom cut out. The only other thing he can do is get an airaid MIT smooth tube but its not really worth the money when it would go a good ways to a set of headers.

If youre dead set on an intake get one that doesnt mount the MAF directly to the box, heat soak gets to the IAT in the MAF and pulls a lot of timing until the box/MAF cools off which is a ways down the road.

Im going to make me one with an ebay heat shield, K&N cone filter and a piece of PVC pipe but hold the MAF between the filter and tube with silicone couplers and not mount it to the heat shield to keep the heat soak problem down. You can only scale the IAT/timing table so much before it starts knocking.

Good info man, thanks, i am cool with the stock air box as it is a tow vehicle and i am not racing it looking for the most. But if the motor took a ****, i woulds surely go with a LS6 cam and do a bit of port work, otherwise, headers may be down the road if i was to need to remove the engine for replacement.

'01 was 325 HP and 370 TQ.
2500HD should be the 10.5" full-floater axle, not the lame 8.625"

Ok, so the numbers i put down are kind of high for what it is. Must be the 4 inch diesel exhaust and drop in K&N, i also put some new plug wires off of my buddies 2010 SS camaro, i think that helped as well, LOL. Guess the TR5 plugs arent holding back.

Full floating axles have the big 4.5" x 4.5" hubs sticking through the wheels, with the 8 little bolts.
This is because the axle tubes are extended to carry the bearings.
Camaros and half tons have the axle shaft itself both carrying the weight and transferring power. But with a full-floater, the axle shafts no longer carry any weight.
This increases the load capacity.
Your axle has no better than a 50 / 50 chance of being limited slip or locker, it wasn't a standard thing without the trailering option.
As for the ratings, I stand corrected. '02 was the first year for the 325 / 370 ratings. '01 was still 300, with 360 ft-lbs at 4000 rpm. Apologies.

Hundreds of thousands of them. My 10.5" is 4.10:1 open diff.
The 10.5 open diff is a 2-piece, so it's easy, and relatively cheap, to install a Detroit Locker. Won't even affect your pre-load or backlash, if you don't get the side shims mixed up.

Even so, best to use some white-out to keep both halves, plus the ring gear, all clocked the exact same as you found them.
