TFS 220 As Cast Vs Dart 205 Head Swap .... Comparison Results Inside
THIS IS A REPOST OF THE ORIGINAL. PLEASE KEEP THIS ON TOPIC. THE INTENT OF THIS THREAD IS TO INFORM PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE MARKET FOR A BUDGET HEAD HOW THESE TWO PARTICULAR PERFORMED ON A MILD COMBO.
That Being said.....
This is a nice comparison. Customer came in to get his combo tuned after installing everything himself. Car is a C5 FRC with a forged shortblock(STOCK CUBIC INCHES)/all bolt ons and an FMS F14 camshaft (low 230s duration)... After making 418 to the tires several times the owner wasnt too excited with the results. He stressed that he wanted more power but didnt want to go up in camshaft and lose the drivability he has. We showed him a set of the TrickFlow 220cc As Cast Cylinder heads and told him these heads should produce 15 to 20 more RWHP over the Darts and he could sell his Darts to offset the cost. So off came the Darts and on went the TrickFlows..... NO OTHER CHANGES WERE MADE. Results are below...
19rwhp gain
17rwtq gain
This is thru a full exhaust and an LS6 intake. Not too shabby for a set of 1679.00 Budget Cylinder heads NOW that the car is making some respectable power for such a mild combo we will add a Ported FAST and pick up another 20 to 30 and be in the high 450s/460s....
**DISCLAIMER**
We know the Darts are 205cc and the TFS heads are 220cc.
We know the Dart heads are on a 15* Valve angle.
We know the TFS heads are on a 13.5* Valve Angle
We know if you put another $700.00 into the Darts they perform better.
We know the customer could have installed a FAST and picked up power.
Keep it on track ladies and gentlemen.........

Will TFS 220 fit on a 408 ci motor? Or is there a bigger bore available? I would be interested to see some of thon a bigger motor. That is impressive though in IMO for an as cast head. I have some AFR 205s on there now and love the thottle response. Keep the results coming...I'll be watching for them.

Honestly, I am surprised to see how low those number are with well-reputed aftermarket heads and a BIG cam. The same results are usually seen with much cheaper heads and a much smaller cam.

The numbers are stout. Dynos vary and so do peoples shortblocks, this is simply an A to B comparison as Ron and Damian have stated. I'm sure as Ron has stated one of their port-matched intakes and the car would make 460+rwhp.

awsome thread! i have an f14hl cam and i have been searching for a good set of budget heads. i decided to go with the trickflow "as cast" heads a couple of days ago and then i stubbled upon this thread today.... perfect timming
wat injectors did you use with this set-up?
i have heard that aftermarket rockers are required with the TFS heads...do they need to be adjustable?

In the dyno I only had stock 28.8 injectors. I recently put a set of F.A.S.T 36# injectors. I recommend using Yella Terra non ajustable roller rockers, thats what I did. Price was $375 bucks and worth the money. Any aftermarket head that has bronze valve guides needs roller rockers, TF just the only company that steps up and admits it.

I spent this afternoon trying to find a vendor who hadn't updated to the new pricing and finally came across just one. so for 385.99 i jumped on it, who knows how long it will be before they realize and update there pricing as well. PM me if you want to know who still has them at the old price.
