Default What kind of gains by going to 1 7/8" headers?

Have a 408 with a big cam, Dart heads, Fast 90/90, TSP duals, etc... Currently running TTS LT headers which I assume are standard 1 3/4 headers. Just curious what kind of gains I can expect if I were switch to a 1 7/8" header.

On your 408ci block and along with that huge cam, I'd say you'd gain quite a bit of power by going with the larger headers, allowing for more exhaust to breath out.

IMO, one of the few cases where the 1 1/8" header would be worth the money for the HP gains.

You lost me there. Wouldn't going to a 1 1/8" header be worse? Or maybe you mean a 2 1/8"?

My guess would be 15-20RWHP gain.

Sorry, typo on my part, I mean to say:

$1,000bucks for headers and the hassel of swapping. 1 3/4 to 1 7/8 do it.

I would go for it, I am going to a 408 in about two weeks and have my ARH 1 7/8"s sitting in the garage waiting on the motor.

Considering I gained 10rwhp and 8rwtq from swapping 1 3/4 TSP headers to 1 7/8 ARH headers on a stock bottom end 346, I'd say its well worth it with larger cubes moving more air.

Is that a fair comparison? TSP headers are not the same build as the ARH.

+1, I have 3/4's but im not planning to get a huge thing going here. If you had a bigger motor like above and all the work done like above, then hell yes I would go with 7/8s. I would imagine with a tune they would be worth a good 20rwhp over the 3/4s

don't mean to jack the thread but I have a simple question. My ws6 is bone stock and I plan on going with LT, ORY, and cat back soon. Should I order the 1 7/8" or 1 3/4 ? I plan on keeping the car a 346ci but pushing about 400rwhp "eventually" maybe some spray down the road also.

I guess what I am asking is....will the 1 7/8" hurt performance on a bolt on only car ?

Ive had the 1 7/8 on a bolt on only car and it lost bottom end torque but gained in the very upper part of the power band.

I have 2" KOOKs on my 408 with spray.

IMHO i would say go ahead and get the 1 7/8 because you say that you will stay with 346 but like many of us.... it just dont happen that way. so why buy headers twice???? i made that mistake already.....
