Default What's your Top Speed on the Dyno?

Just wondering what kind of top speeds the stock LS's and the higher performance cars are getting on the dyno?

I guess I will provide you with a productive post. And YES dyno's do read out speed. As well as everything else available OBDII and analog. My T/A with 2.73 and A4 did 170 at the top of third gear with stock 16" wheels (tire size unknown). He is a picture of it. Look at the X axis. (The reason it said speed as opposed to RPM is because I was curious. Just as this guy is. Give him a break.)

Kyle

P.S.: My corrected HP was 318. Lol. Didn't wanna 'false-advertise' here.

i don't think the dyno will read your true top speed since on the street you have air resistance (drag coefficient).

This is entirely true. The question was 'on the dyno' though. On the street... I would say my car would crap out at 160-70ish? Doing that on stock suspension would be mad though. It would feel like you're floating.

Since you're curious...

Stock stall, 3.23's, and mods in sig = 140mph in 3rd gear.

My first trip to the dyno my car sputtered hard during the first run. Took a few minutes to figure out the speed limiter on my car was set to 115 (I think... I forget now). And I think it was because my car came with the crappiest all season tire option from the factory.

My car has been up to 250 MPH on the dyno, at which point the driveshaft reached its critical speed and exploded, and in that process clubbed a baby seal and killed a Canadian goose - international incident...man, that was ugly.

Bottom line: I don't recommend it.

Your vehicle wont hit the top speed even with the calculation. I did a calculation on my M6 with weight and gearing. It said I could do 243mph. Do you think a 99 camaro is ever gonna hit 243 without radical suspension and body mods? Doubtful. However i have had mine at 186 in 5th gear on a highway and trust me on stock suspension that was a crazy *** ride. But the car had alot more in it. Its fun to know but like has been said you wont ever reach that speed on a road.

The reason I ask is to see the differences between dyno top speed and real-world top speed with air resistance and front-tires rolling resistance.

well when you dyno in 4th 1:1 gear it doesnt matter if your on the dyno or road itll still hit the same number.

i hit 132mph in 4th and thats at 7200 where the limiter is

but if your talking about 5th and 6th, then yeas it will go faster on the dyno since there is zero wind resistance

I did 174 in 4th gear (t56) at 6.8k

I still had the 2.73s (3rd gen) in at the time.
