cam only 5.3 in SS Dyno'd today
I went to C&C in Tennessee today and dyno tuned my buddies SS camaro. I put together the combo for him after the ls1 spun a rod bearing. Its a m6 car, hooker LT, borla catback, 5.3 out of a 2000 model truck(whole motor, not heads), ls6 intake, 32lb injectors, underdrive crank pulley, 228/230 .588 .591 112lsa, comp 918s and pushrods. It made 368RWHP 352TQ STD 364/347 UNcorercted(corrected was 1hp less)after some tweaking, basically right around 12.8 A/F at peak power, but I need to go back when the clutch isnt slipping so badly and finish it up. Notice the loop in the graph where it slips horribly on initial tip in. It also slipped in and out through most of the runs. I'm suprised it made that kind of power, I actually was prepared to make one pull and go home because it slips bad while driving down the road normal. I ended up making like 13 pulls and it basically slipped the same every time and allowed me to tune.
Thumbs up to C&C for their patience and excellent service! thanks again guys
graphs:
STD&Uncorrected. corrected was 1hp less than uncorreected

I didn't think that the drive wheels had anything to do with the designation of the motor, but whatever. And I agree, if a h/c ls1 made those numbers I would cry as well. How come he went with the 5.3 instead of another ls1?

No prob man, i wasn't tryin to start any ****. That makes sense, and besides, it looks like he is getting some decent power of that engine and it's something different, so he's got that goin for him. I would love to get some 5.3 truck heads for my car. I had an idea, but I see your in nashville. That's a long ways away from me, nevermind lol.

yea it seems to only be about 25hp from what a cam only LS1 would make with the same cam. Only place its further from is TQ, it made about 35less TQ than my old cam only LS1 TA did with the exact same cam.
Texas ain't that far away! You ever picked up a set of LSx heads? they don't weigh crap, I bet shipping is cheap. I could get a set of heads prob.

We might talk about that, depends on which way i end up going. I'm trying to get my car up to about 400rwhp, but I wanna do it with some heads and a decent size cam, so I have more under the curve power.

You would need to get the 5.3 heads ported to make good power i'm sure, i don;t think the compression bump would yield the extra power, i could be wrong. The 5.3 heads have smaller valves
