Default Locked vs unlocked converter dyno run

Guys,

Anyone have first hand accounts of the average difference between dyno results with the converter locked & unlocked?

Thanks!

I'm new to all this...

My car made 391 unlocked with a 2800Vig on a Dynojet...does that help give a range?

thanks

From what I seen, locked you will see between 30-40 more rwhp depending on the size and effeciency of the stall. I always have had mine dynoed unlocked.

I locked my 4L80E converter during my 3rd run of my first dyno session and gained 30rwhp and 26rwt, nudging me over the 500HP mark to 501rwhp/469rwt, 383 w/7.8# of boost.

Why would you dyno unlocked?

Thanks for feedback guys

Looks like 20-30 is the range...so locked I'll say 411!

Not too shabby for an A4 budget build. With a ported FAST I can tack on a few more for braggin rights...LOL

Maybe next year.

EFI LIVE wont lock the verter in a 06 GTO,I have a tool that will allow me to do it but why should I,all it will give me is a number woo hoo..I have dynoed my GTO unlocked on every run at 3500 to redline...

Results were 436/407 UNLOCKED SAE Corrected..
Locked it would be somewhere around 455ish.....

My SY3500 only had a 5-6 rwhp difference from locked and unlocked.
My SS4000 has a 40+ rwhp difference from locked and unlocked.

But the SS4000 kills my previous converter.

When you swapped converters, is that all you changed? Just curious as to what you gained from the swap as I have the same converter and a new converter is in my future.

I also had the tranny beefed up with the new converter. On the street the SS4000 pulls harder, hits harder and feels stronger than the SY3500. It's shift extensions are at 6000rpm as well, which is 500 more than the SY3500. I don't have good track #s for comparision. I liked my SY3500, but i like the 4000 little more.

OK, just wondering. My SY3500 is VERY consistent, but I think it lacks vs. a newer converter more matched to my combination. I'm not sure what I am going to go with so far. Right now looking at FTI, Circle D, and Vig.
