Default SPEED INC. FAST LSX-R - NW 102mm TB dyno test

I finally had some time today to do some testing with the new Fast LSX-R intake manifold and Nick Williams 102mm throttle body.

Vehicle specifications-

2008 Z06, 5k miles. Speed Inc./Comp 228/242 117 cam, ported LS7 intake manifold, stock throttle body, Vara-ram induction, Kooks headers and X-pipe. No cats. Stock mufflers.

Test specifications-

All dyno runs were made with water temp at 200deg and oil temp between 190-200deg. No cool-down runs were made, I wanted absolute consistency. I made three baseline pulls and three pulls with the FAST intake/NW TB. The car was not shut off between runs but was allowed to idle and cool back down to 200deg temps before the next run was made. Anyone interested is welcome to the HPT logs.

The tune remained the same between both intakes with the exception of some etc scaler and idle airflow adjustments for the 102mm throttle body. Air fuel ratio is 12.85.

Stock LS7 injectors were used for both tests and they were reaching 89% duty cycle.

Conditions remained very consistent throughout the day. Baseline was between 85.13deg to 85.71deg, 26-27% humidity 1.02 correction SAE.

FAST runs were between 82.29 to 82.84deg, 27-28% humidity 1.02 correction SAE.

Test results-

Baseline runs with ported LS7 intake and stock throttle body-

Dynorun 54. 513.85rwhp 458.71rwtq
Dynorun 55. 512.10rwhp 457.69rwtq
Dynorun 56. 512.29rwhp 456.61rwtq

Test runs with out of the box (untouched) LSX-R intake and NW 102tb

Dynorun 57. 526.09rwhp 481.39rwtq
Dynorun 58. 528.84rwhp 479.98rwtq
Dynorun 59. 528.49rwhp 479.35rwtq

I was rather impressed with the results. Comparing the best ported LS7 run to the best FAST LSX-R run, gains were 14.99rwhp and 21.27rwtq at peak.

In other parts of the curve gains were up as much as 23rwhp and 23rwtq.

Yet there will probably still be people that will pick apart the testing/results.

Very nicely done, and very promising results out of this intake.

can you open up the mouth of the LS7 intake to 102? If so I'd like to see how much of this gain was going to the larger 102 tbody

good work! it did loose alittle power under 3700 right? or were you guys just going WOT right there.

Looks to definetly be money well spend especially compared to a stock LS7 intake.

Good question, can ya ??

Anyways just to reiterate:
Ported ls7 intake, stock tb vs unported lsxR 102mm with NW 102 mm tb.

Holy crap does the difference become obvious from 3700 rpms on !! Seems like the more modded a motor is, the more power the new fast lsxR 102 mm makes!

Did you see the results of a stock motor unported ls7 intake, swapped to an unported lsxR? If memory serves there wasn't much of a gain. Now with a cam and headers, the new intake works great. Any clue what could be had from porting ??

Thanks again for such a detailed and informative post.

One last thing, on a more aggressive cam can one infer that the gains would be even greater ??

I am curious about the cam? 228/242 that seems like a big in/ex difference. What was the rationale for this?

I think it has a lot to do with the fact that ls7 heads flow really well on the intake side but need all the help they can get on the exhaust side. Hence the huge split. That cam is probably nearly stealth. Just a tad above a true stealth cammed car. Depending on how good the tune is though.

If you look closely at the graph you can see that the power band is still above the stock runs at 3700. They are really close and then it makes the jump.

+1 man !!!

The lines are close but never actually cross. The fine lines do blur a bit. Gotta love that big increase in power after 3700 rpms.

Hey Jim. Out of curiosity what did this car make stock? Also how much did you pick up with just the cam swap?
